If Steve Smith is sent packing...

...and it turns out that Ron Rivera had a hand in the decision, will it affect your opinion of Rivera as head coach of the Panthers?

If so, how?

I love it. Yeah I know, I know, but bottom line the guy doesn't want to be here anymore. As a coach or GM I get his ass off my roster ASAP. If Rivera said 'lets get him outta here' I salute him for having the balls to do what needed to be done for the betterment of the locker room and team even though it was a fan favorite.

I'm giving Rivera my full support right now. Just like I give all Panthers players and staff he will have my full support until he does something that clearly isn't in the best interest of the franchise. If he cuts Smith I will hate it I will be angry but I will trust that it is in the teams best interest.

But I hope he doesn't get rid of Smith...

Steve Smith isn't in his prime.....

Steve Smith has a lot negative aspects about him....and he isn't the type WR you want on young team.

I think Rivera willing to part w/ a player like Smitty could be a clue he might be a pretty good coach.

Not really. Smith has been an issue for a while, and it's starting to get the point where his skills/production (lack there of) aren't making up for his antics. He's also on the decline, since his game is based on speed. I'd like to see it all worked out, but what can you do? This team has already wasted too much time on aging vets in the past.

    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
    • It is goofy how some people hate Bryce so much that they're flat out lying to try and remain entitled to their pessimism. It's insanity. Most fans are realists and eagerly awaiting the season to see if we get pre- or post-benching Bryce to start the season and how much he is able to do with some young and developing weapons. Many of us understand that these young guys are going to have growing pains on the job as well as the new defense, but the fans with all of the excuses for why Bryce can't be successful are pounding the no excuses drum. Personally, I'd prefer the Keep Pounding drum.
