What if Luck came out?

agreed, but he was 1000% better than any QB prospect in this draft

I really feel like people who say things like this saw none of his games. I only watched two but he missed quite a few easy passes. Over threw a few screens. Threw a couple interceptions, and lost one of those games. I was sold on his raw physical talent and intelligence. He was in no way polished and looking like he was going to be dominant in the NFL right away. He had really high potential and zero red flags.

He in no way looked the way you guys act like he did.

That is where we differ old chap. I didn't have Newton that far behind Luck.

I just can't see that. Luck is a comparable athlete, but is sooooo much more polished as a thrower. Also has experience running a real offense(inb4 people bring up Clausen being pro ready when his offense was a shitload of screens and inaccurate deep balls to good receivers that adjusted) and had virtually zero red flags concerning his character/off the field issues.

it's not even close IMO.

well yeah no quarterback is perfect, of course he's going to miss some easy throws(NFL quarterbacks also do this FYI). scroll up and you'll see I said that there is no way he would live up to the hype many put on him(ie that he'll step in and throw 30 TD's and win the SB). he was just about as good as it gets as a qb prospect.

Right now there is a consensus #1 pick

that's not even close to true

Luck was the consensus #1 pick the second the Panthers announced they would take Luck if he declared

Panthers have literally said nothing official regarding the #1 pick. Everything is speculative and you know this :)

Well for me, most of Cam's character red flags were over blown. And I think Cam Newton has a higher ceiling than Andrew Luck.

I also don't think that Luck is sooooo much more polished as a thrower. I think he is more polished but Cam has a really good throwing motion. And his accuracy is underrated.

And Cam is simply the best running QB I have ever seen. He may not be as fast as Vick, but he has great vision, great cutting ability, the ability to break tackles, and can finish runs when he has to. I know some people don't like to count this as a positive but I do.

It is true. Look at the mocks drafts. Cam Newton is the consensus #1 pick. I don't care where they were in January. You think we should take Fairley bc he was the consensus #1 pick back then??

Cam Newton is #1 in nearly every mock right now. ;)

I've seen enough of Luck to know he is a championship caliber player. He would have won the national championship had he played on a stronger team. The team he didn't beat, he actually looked better against then Cam did. (And the only reason Cam won against Oregon was because of the guys on his team.) I've seen Luck's throwing and accuracy, but he also has speed on him. He's an athletic Peyton Manning.

All in all, the guy was able to come in right away, and I do think we are having a much different discussion in terms of Dwill staying here, also pretty sure Smitty would have liked to work with him because he never had a potential superstar QB throwing to him.

For the love of god. You won't know until years down the road. To automatically anoint him God of Football prospects you at least have to watch him play in the NFL. He may end up being the biggest bust of all time. S

    • You joke, but hasn't basically the whole team been in Charlotte this past week together? I'm not one to see the random dumb stuff players put out on social media in the offseason and think it means that's ALL they've been doing and not working on their game.  But it's a little strange that all this is coming out at the same time we're seeing tons of stuff with the team in Charlotte together, even if it's just working out and not even official team OTA's or anything. So he gets a pass from me saying anything now, but if he doesn't show clear improvement this season, it then opens him up to some retroactive criticism for some things.
    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
