My case for Newton.

I think Clausen deserves another shot, along with Moore and Pike.

Rivera has admitted Clausen got a crap deal.

I think Clausen does to.I also see them bring Moore in after the CBA is done and they probably give him a one year deal. He really didnt do what was expected of him last season 1-4 as the starter 5-8 INT.But I really want to see has Clausen had any progress from last season to this season.

See, I don't think it is. I wouldn't want Cam to start right away...but I think he COULD be better than Clausen right away.

Can't afford to delay the offense....it is horrific. Worst in the NFL in all aspects last year. D was fine last year and will be fine this year. You can't ignore your most glaring weakness.

I agree with you there, but that's not saying much. Most Qbs in the NFL are better than Clausen, and that is why we are picking first overall now. I understand the athletic ability with Cam, but his style of play isn't necessarily desired for the QB position on the pro level. It's easier for defenses to prepare for running QBs than for QBs who know how to disect them with their arms. The reason Michael Vick is still a starter in this league is due to physical speed and his arm strength. Cam has the physical ability, but his arm strength isn't anything great. I just don't know about this one.

Our offense was bad mostly due to O-line problems and poor coaching. We can fix the O-line through the draft and free agency, and I believe our coaching is better. We should be good enough on offense not to turn the ball over or go three and out all the time. Yet to make our defense exceedingly strong this year will pay dividends on the offensive side as well. So if we have an average offense, a great defense will only add to that.

I say get all the weapons you can bring in for Clausen and if he sucks donkey d*ck with a new QB coach, OC, HC, and supporting cast, yeah, then let's go after a QB. I mean, if people are willing to spend 2-3 years hoping Newton can learn the ways of the NFL and single handedly take us to the super bowl, why not just give that douche from Notre Dame another shot?

As tinkerbell from hook would say: Come on! Give him a chance!

I could see us utilizing Newton in a way that makes us "competitive" right away, but I worry about his ceiling being low as an overall QB.

And I agree. Why the fug does everyone keep saying his ceiling is so high? What makes a ceiling high? A good foundation and nice sturdy walls. I don't even know what the fug those would be in a metaphor, but Cam's walls aren't much different than the usual one hit wonders' that everyone raves about every god damn year.

I just think unless Chud is going to revamp his offense and install a lot of WC aspects to it.......we pretty much know Clausen will suck.

To work in Chud's offense he first would have to totally revamp his throwing motion. While you are waiting on Clausen to rework his game you have to acknowledge just about everything about him is average

I have an appreciation for anyone that has the angry footloose dance as their avatar pic. But you are still wrong Newton has a very high ceiling

Everyone has been saying that but I don't think anyone really knows what the hell it means. Not trying to target you though ;)

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
