How much more does Smith have anyway?

He's 32. He had a ton of drops last year. He's a short speed receiver. He hasn't exactly built a reputation as a mentor and player-coach in the locker room. And he's throwing a tantrum about the team that drafted him and forgave all his missteps over the years.

Seriously, would you be happy of your team traded for him? Would you think of him in the same way the Ravens thought of Anquan Boldin last year (who, incidentally is five inches taller and two years younger than Smith, and only caught 64 balls in 16 games)? Or would you wonder what they were smoking in the front office?

I agree...said we should've gotten what we could prior to the 2010-2011 trade deadline. Everyone "knew" at that point the Panthers were going to suck, not have a 2nd round pick, and that we had a ton of holes to fill. Too freaking bad that the Panthers FO had a lockout to plan for and put that above all other priorities....like winning and putting a good product on the field and show innovative moves to improve in the future.

Do you not believe they cut salary, and went young to be a step ahead of the curve for this year and moving forward with a younger team in an attempt to establish a young core of experienced and talented players, as well as have an exceptional amount of cap room to re-sign key players and bring in new talent as well? :out:

Somewhat. What would be their reasoning to keep a guy who's had issues, didn't perform that well last year, and could still garner worth on the trade market when he was a year younger to boot.

I wouldn't say he's exactly throwing a tantrum. To me that would be ala Ocho Cinco or god forbid TO type stuff.

he's not exactly a mentor and he can be a pain in the ass sometimes. So, if he wants out, let him go and get what you can for him (although how much leverage the team has now is debatable. none probably). That said, he's been one of my favorite players and I'll hate to see him retire on another team. I don't blame him for trying to make his last years in the league good ones.

I really don't know what kind of fans we have here. Smith is without a doubt, the best offensive player on the team and you guys want to get rid of him and still say that you want to win. Yes he had a few drops last year, the man is literally trying to do to much b/c others in his position isn't or wasn't doing enough and the QB play simply Sucked! Smith is the best WR on the team and one of the best in the league. Show the man some loyalty.
