Sal pal In Charlotte NC on the Panthers and Cam Newton

So buying a stolen laptop, cheating on exams and potentially trying to take money to play at a certain school means you don't want to be a great NFL QB?

How about the fact that he's won two national championships and the Heisman? How about the fact that he looks like he's chiseled out of stone and he use to organize practices on his own and stay at Auburn on the weekends to workout while others went to ATL to chase tail? When BAMA was all over Auburn, Cam could have packed it in and accepted the loss and we all would have understood but instead he put the team on his back and carved out a win. I would say Cam has done MUCH MORE to demonstrate that he does want to be great based on what I know.

this is what made him in my eyes. i was a huge Luck fan but my close 2nd option has always been Newton. i remember watching that game and seeing his facial expression he had a pissed, but calm look on. and rest was history.

Several teams got this feeling from his interviews...they highly doubt he wants to win/be great more than he wants to get paid. Before people play the "race" card (moronic IMO), the same questions were asked of Ryan Leaf, and the Colts GM admitted that those questions were the only ones that separated Leaf from Manning. Same questions are asked of every player, and some convince you and some don't.

Newton has failed to convince many scouts/GMs that he cares more about football than money. If he is the pick, we will be set back 5-6 years at best. You just can't take these risks at #1.

Been honest when people look at Newton they look at Jamarcus Russell. Well thats what i assume they look at. The Media is hot on his Ass. Anything he says or do gets criticzied. He has one full starting year in D-1 football 1 strike. He has red flags from his past 2 strikes. And the jamarcus Russell effect is three. What I mean by the jamarcus russell effect is that no team wants to draft the next biggest bust at QB. Should I keep going there is a couple of more. So people are going to say he is a bust especially TV anaylst and past red flags is even worse. There is nobody that is perfect especially if you are black you know you are not perfect. I can say that because I am black.

What convince me is because i feel he wants to be great. He has that Kobe mentality. If you dont watch basketball the Kobe mentality is im going to do what it takes to be great by any means, im going to use any bad thing that people said about me or said that i couldnt do and im going burn you with it by my production on the field in Cam Newton case.

The Panthers have been my team forever. Dont no media care about our team like they care about the patriots the cowboys the Giants or any others. One reason is because we are small market i can understand that.

People are hoping for the guy to bust why so they can say i told you so.

I dont have enough posts to start my own thread so it will go in this one.

Today i went to lunch with a coworker and we see Jerry Richardson. I work for a spanish radio network that broadcasts the games and introduced myself. I called him by his first name only to realize everybody else was Mr Richardson this Mr Richardson that. Well we shake hands then start to eat and in walks Sal Pal and starts eating with Jerry and some other guys.

After i finish eating i see Jerry walking to me and asks to sit with my coworker and i. We talk for 20 min about the hispanic community in charlotte, the draft and the cba.

1. He mentioned to us that hes so worried about the CBA and the future of the NFL that he forgot the draft was tomorrow.

2. He feels like the league will go down if there is no draft and players can choose where they go. I mentioned the Yankees and he sad yes players would go to the higher bidder and the small market teams like charlotte would suffer greatly.

3. He also mentioned the players being against a once a yr needle test for the human growth steroid

4. Once the CBA is fixed we will be in a better position than any other team bc the panthers planned for this and will be able to resign many players as well as be active in free agency

5. He has a preference for the #1 pick and chuckled when i said im not going to ask but i want to know. Have a feeling we will pick his guy

6. After we finished talking with Jerry Sal Pal stood up and started talking to us trying to figure out who we were.

Overall, my coworker a dolphin fan, has a new respect for jerry and im excited about the future of the franchise if the cba is resolved. We will be so far under the cap that we will be able to have a turn around in about 2 yrs.

I know i know cool story bro!

I do think the question about him "wanting to be great" is absurd, what has he done to suggest he doesn't want to be great?

Like the "fake smile" it's the kind of criticism that seems totally subjective and unfair to me. Why wasn't anybody questioning whether or not Sam Bradford wanted to be great last year? I think some of these "analysts" dislike Cam on a personal level so they fling these "questions" about him around... I'd hate to think it was motivated by race.

Well lets see, no personal red flags. No cheating in school, no about to get kicked out of OU before he ran off to a JUCO school. No thefts, no one hit wonder, reads defenses great coming out of school, no footwork issues, can break down complicated plays and defenses right out of college...

I can go on but I know it won't do any good.

Don't be offended, but IF this is true good stuff. And JR is right he set us up to be in position that if a CBA is reached we will be the best off and be able through free agency to get back to winning fast! he is also right, Carolina will not be able to compete if the players win in court so fans need to get ready for this should it happen.
