Once we draft Cam, this fanbase will support him right?

Awesomeness!!

Hate to say it, but I think about 97% of black Panthers fans are gonna support him even if he stinks it up to start and doesn't pan out. Obviously, I don't know every Panther fan personally but from who I've talked to, I think only me, Chris Harris, and evidently Steve Smith, are the only three black people in the area who aren't 100% certain he's gonna be good and a slam dunk draft pick. LOL I mean, I hope he's good, but damn.

Prime example KT.

I can see it now if we Draft Newton when he sucks, KT will say, its because Richardson didn't give him a line, or any weapons or a defense.

Interesting take. So are we saying that Cam is the "Great Black Hope"?;) All jokes aside if he's wearing Black-n-Blue I'm a Newton fan. And let's face it, after last year we can only go up.

Making generalizations are generally a horrible idea. Whether I disagree or not, still.

It's not that big of a generalization. I don't it was just a coincidence that 99% of the callers on wfnz last night were african american. Unless it was KT nut hugging with his impostor abilities.

I'm black and I am not blind to the fact that Cam Newton can fail. But I don't believe his shortcomings are not fixable. Physically he has all the tools. He would easily be the best athlete at QB we have ever had. He handles pressure situations well and has been humbled in life (Blinn). So it really comes down to work ethic and coaching. I think he can succeed.

I will not support the pick, but I will support the player.

Hated the AE trade, the Brown trade, the Stew pickup, and will probably hate the Cam selection, but I support them all.

I agree with you on all your points, obviously besides the J Stewie remark. You must have missed the first two seasons when he played right???

If we do pick him and he ends up starting a few games and does poorly, I hope all the fans don't immediately start calling him a bust and crying about how bad he is or things will get much worse. The kids never lost games and doing so with unsupportive fans could damage his confidence and give him no chance to succeed. Then again hes handled all the criticism pretty well.

I agree and I'm not trying to call out any other posters in particular. But I kind of think I may be privy to certain opinions on Newton and this organization that might not be shared here, on WFNZ talk radio, or to white Panther fans, and I've heard a lot of the same thing from people I talk to.

I don't think its taboo at all to suggest that Cam is gonna get a ton of support if we draft him, particularly from black fans. I think I know, since I'm black myself and talk to black folk all the time lol, work in a sporting goods store, and one of my best friends who actually listens to WFNZ told me that every black fan who calls in wants us to draft this one guy in particular.

If things hold true to form the doubters, haters and just didn't want a quarterback guys will say they support him and if he succeeds will laud the pick one day. But if he struggles, the old "I knew this was going to happen" posts will be rampant.

It really is a no lose position. If he succeeds then everyone can say that they supported him and are happy. If he fails then can come back with "how smart they are" comments all day. The harder position is actually supporting him knowing he is arisk but still putting it out there.
