What if Dewayne Jarrett could catch a pass?

the way you defend that guy I can't believe the way you bash on Jimmy given the situation he was put in

To each their own I guess!

I hope Cam does well, but jeez give it up already, no need to keep beating a kid in the ground!

jarrett's problem wasn't catching, he caught damn near everything thrown at him.

his problem was work ethic and getting open... and driving drunk.

Dwayne Jarrett was never put on a field for 13 games nor got starting reps for 10 games in a season. There was always a little mystery to exactly how bad Jarrett was......he would go in for 1 snap and look lost. Next week 1 snap and makes a clutch 3rd down grab.

Jarrett had NFL talent/skill, no NFL work ethic. Clausen is the reverse imo.

Clausen got the chance to show something.....there is no debating that. Jimmy's situation was not THAT bad....his QB play was.

Cam Newton got drafted onto a team that has a pretty ideal scenario for a young QB (just like Clausen a year ago). Good D, good OL, good ground game. Doesn't mean the 10 or upcoming 11 season was perfect for a young QB but it was and will be good.

When you play like the later career David Carr though......you make everyone look like crap around you. That ain't a bad situation, it is bad QB play.

Man do I hope Jimmy comes out this year and plays his tail off and proves everybody out there wrong. I'm this kid's biggest supporter, so much so that before the draft last year I was saying we should trade up to get him if he slipped. He got thrown into a bad situation last year and I'm not prepared to throw him under the bus yet. Nothing would make me happier than for this pick to light a fire in him that pushes him into the potential that I and a lot of other people think he has.

Not that bad you say?

Two Rookie WR and a vet that was disgrunteled and dropped over half the passes that hit his hands?

Good O-Line? Did you wa....Never mind

Please show me the production of the running backs from last season, oh wait, we didn't have any (even when Matt was starting) - see above

I really have to question if you REALLY watched the game or if you, and others like you, focused in on what an individual player did wrong.

the team, as a whole, was pretty terrible and to say all issues boiled down to poor play by one player, Jimmy, is just asinine!

Anyway, no reason to really debate the QB situation anymore. I think everyone can agree that competition is a great thing and have faith that whomever is the named the starter on opening day is the starter because he is the best QB we have; be it Newton, Clausen, <Insert hopeful vet name here>

- when Clausen was on the BENCH the WRs produced, they actually produced VERY well.

- OL had injuries, it happens in the NFL. Similar OL protection was seen all over our division (QBs just made smarter choices and were willing to make plays).

- the run game was productive for Clausen. Run game did the same thing it has for the past 2 seasons. Start off slow and then got cranking. Clausen had a top producing ground attack in the NFL for most of his starts.

Facts are facts.

Clausen didn't win in college. Didn't beat anyone in college. Weiss had him dumping off and out quick as possible in college b/c Clausen can't sit in a pocket.

Clausen came into the NFL and looked and played the same way. He had one of the most horrible rookie performance in 20 years.

Don't pimp Clausen as a victim of a bad scenario....he was bad first and foremost. Now maybe he can improve b/c he is a hardwork and overachiever.... ceiling is low and will take time on the bench to reach it.

yes he was. 2009 he played in 13 games. he didn't catch anything in the vast majority of them but he played.

that is why I may a point in my post to point out that Jimmy played in 13 and got starter reps in 10 games. Clausen played more downs in his rookie year than Jarrett did his entire career....by a large margin.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
