Round 3: Panthers Select Sione Fua

We could've traded both of those picks for Randall Cobb, Marvin Austin, or the big DT from Oregon St. that went right behind him. Look how dominant the Bears and Giants DLs have been over the years. There's a reason. They pick good players, not leftovers. And they took both of those DTs that we should've been targeting, but that's just my opinion.

I would have liked Austin but maybe teams wanted a lot more than Carolina was willing to give up to move up.

All I'm saying is Rivera has been one of the best defensive minds in the league for quite a while. I'll trust his opinion on defensive players more than pretty much anyone's.

You can't trade compensatory picks. We had the top of the third round, sure, but I bet you we tried to get into the middle of the 2nd and failed to because the price was next year's picks and we weren't willing to do that.

Because they were selected in the 3rd round? I don't see your thought process...maybe you could enlighten the rest of us on these guys?

No, but Marty does seem to throw away picks here. They aren't huge impact players. Watch Marvin Austin or the kid from Ore. St., then watch these guys... Huge difference. But, this is who we have now so, oh well...

I would agree with that if this was still the John Fox Panthers. I assume Rivera has a little more knowledge of the DT position.

He's known as a under-sized NT which fits the hybrid 4-3/3-4 imo.

I'm hoping that's what is going on here and we're picking for versatility there. (to both of these previous quotes)

Another solid pick, we needed major help at DT and it is good that we realized that and fixed that tonight. Now tomorrow we can look for a CB, WR, and OG. I would love to see us start tomorrow with Greg Salas, really like that kid.

No, WR needs to be via FA....we need a one not a three....House or another CB tomorrow please....

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
