Who should we take at #98?

I think House looks pretty good for CB. He's 6' and we like big corners. Had 11 picks at New Mexico St for 320 return yards. 46 pass deflections. Ran a 4.4 40. Not afraid to go in for a big hit. We met with him too. Hoping he's the first pick tomorrow.

I hadn't heard too much about House. From what you have listed, I would be OK with him as the pick. But, I just think that Boling is too good to pass up here.

The further we go down the draft, the less importance we should place on positions and the more we should care about talent alone. Boling may very well be the best player remaining. The cherry on top is that he does in fact play for a need - guard. The FO should be running to the podium tomorrow imo. This way of thinking is exactly how we got Kalil, even when we had bigger needs. It's a good method.

:cheers2: Boling, IMO, is the best player available. It just makes it even better that he could fill 2 needs for us. (RG and backup OT)

I could live with Boling or Cannon (although I do think I remember reading he was going to have some kind of chemo, if it checks out then I'm on board, he's a 2nd Rd talent sitting there). Both seem like they could step in Day 1 and take over @ RG of course I hold out hope for Duke Robinson too (I'll get ripped for that, but the kid could play in college).

I'm fine with Carmichael, House, Burney, or Burton in the secondary. If nothing else I think they are better then the late round DB's last year.

A name I'm suprised I have not heard though, what about Christian Ballard out of Iowa and Jarrell Powe out of Mississippi? Both could help out in that DT spot that was definitely a weak point coming into the draft.

Threw a lot of names out there...I probably would go with Powe over Ballard just because of his size and try to get a CB in the 5th. Although the more I type the more Cannon, if his health checks out, feels good too. Gotta protect the Franchise...

Just read this on walterfootball in his new mock draft for rounds 4 and 5, for people wanting Marcus Cannon:

Dallas Cowboys: Marcus Cannon, G, TCU

The Cowboys reportedly like Marcus Cannon. Or at least they did prior to the unfortunate biopsy. Cannon is now a late-round prospect who will have to sit out a year. Let's hope he can make a comeback and thrive in 2012.

I hadn't heard he was going to have to sit this year. Anyone else know anything about that?

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
