Undrafted Free Agents

Recommended Posts

So, under the lockout situation, and I'm not even sure where the details stand right now....guys that went undrafted are now in the same position as free agents already in the league? As in, they cannot be talked to until something changes, correct?

Also, do you guys have any specific players you'd like to look at that went undrafted?

DeAndre McDaniel (SS, Clemson)

-Still confused why he didn't get scooped up, a true ball hawk

Mark Herzlich (LB, Boston College)

- Too good of character and toughness not to give him a shot. Even if he doesn't play, our locker room would get a boost.

We have never been any good at picking up UDFA.

Maybe it was Fox, maybe it was Hurney, but it has never been our strong suit. The Chargers have been really good at it though, so maybe RR took some pages out of AJ's book.

I think those two guys will be in high demand once this lockout BS gets settled. Would love to have Herzlich - gotta pull for a guy like that. :)

    • Even if he beats the odds, returns midseason  and plays like he did last year it won’t warrant a big contract extension.
    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
