1 decision away from a lost season...

So if San Fran had the #1 pick he would have stayed in?

Nothing I have seen or heard about Luck says that he would have came out just if San Fran had the #1 pick. Do you have a link saying otherwise?

This is a pointless conversation by the way. I don't want to be in any position to draft Luck next year anyways.

Agree to disagree? I hate that saying.

sorry Panthro, but Newton would have jumped at the chance to go to Detroit for $50 million - hes here because he hit the lottery here

Actually, that's what the draft is about, you don't choose where you want to go. And Luck knew that there was no chance of him sliding past Carolina, so he stayed. Actually I hope Barkley goes first next year so it'll show him how much of a mistake it was.

So here we are, one court ruling away from a lost season.

Chances are good that the appeal will be denied, and free agency and the NFL season will begin sometime in July or as soon as the circuit court rules on the June hearing. If this is the case, there will be time for a full camp and preseason. Great news especially for our young team.

But if the appeal is upheld, and the lockout is allowed, I don't see how there will be a full football season this year, if any at all. The Owners are poised to lockout the players for as long as they need to. The players are not as prepared, but will not cave before the start of the season.

So what happens if there is no camp. No preseason. No practices. What happens if the Panthers are thrown into the season with 3 days to prepare for the first game in a 12 game season?

In short, we are god awful. I mean, we would make last season's team look Superbowl caliber.

- completely new coaching staff/scheme/terminology/philosophy/playbook

- no seasoned veteran QB

In short, we are fugged. Think about going against Tampa Bay, New Orleans, and Atlanta who are all at the very least working within the same schemes and playbooks as seasons past with QB's well versed in those schemes.

I can't stress to you how absolutely god awful we will be. Think carefully on the Panthers worst year, then imagine that team but about half as good.

This bundle of happiness brought to you by Zod inc.

You mean Carolina would get the 1st pick in the draft next year as well?

Holy cow, what a dilema......after drafting Clausen in the 2nd and Cam with the 1st pick this year....do you pass on Andrew Luck, the annointed 2nd coming of Peyton Manning that would have made everyone ask 'Cam WHO' if he had been in the draft this year?! Yeah, that would be awful, having to make that decision...

yeah, thats going to be a great use of tax payer dollars.

could see it happening, though.

wouldn't be the US government unless is meddled where it shouldn't.

Federal court is not tax dollars? If you want to save money then the owners make since seeing how they are saying this is a union matter not a federal one.

Blame D.Smith for wasting your tax dollars and your season.

They did, but that can go away at any time if the circuit court decides.

It seems more and more that the court won't rule on a permanent stay and just keep the temp stay in place till the expedited hearing on the Nelson decision.

I hope that if the Players feel they might lose this round, and the owners lost the last round; perhaps they will get together and actually try some serious negotiations.

owners fault we're in this mess in the first place. smith isn't helping, though.

still....better federal court than congressional hearings. i don't approve of any of it being used, though.

Would have happened either way. Just came sooner rather than later.

Well unless you expected the union to give up more money when the CBA expired a few years from now.

If this thing is finally settled late in the summer, say mid July....I wonder if the league will allow longer camps as to allow teams a few more days to develope cohesion. I think this would really benefit our fans: more days to travel to Wofford to increase the Cam frenzy.;)

The hearing is June 3, a decision will come a month to a month and a half after. That's July. You don't think the players will holdout 2 more months? I think they will.

When was the last lockout when games were not missed? Clue: there isn't one.

The NFL has to file their brief by May 9th, The players file their response by May 20th, the owners can file file their response to the player's response by the 26th.

Meanwhile court ordered mediation is set to resume on May 16th. Seems to me that once the lockout appeal gets decided, the losing side will capitulate and the agreement will be done by the end of June which is still in time to get in OTAs and training camp.

How many lockouts have there been in the last 40 years?? Clue: there hasn't been one. The last lockout was in 1968. The last strike was in 1987 but they used replacement players and a number of vets were allowed to cross the picket lines. Since the union recertified in 1993 after the settlement which established free agency, there has not been a lockout.

No reason to believe this will drag out into the regular season especially since everyone is making tons of money.

    • Some people will shift the goal posts but he does still have to consistently help the team win, eventually. Not only help but be the reason. That's what franchise QB's do.
    • One of the Carolina Panthers' newest defenders thinks their pass rush can go from worst to first. ESPN's David Newton recently chatted with outside linebacker Pat Jones II, who signed with the Panthers as a free agent earlier this offseason. Jones comes over from an awfully impressive Minnesota Vikings defense—one that ranked first in takeaways (33), fourth in sacks (49) and second in QB pressure rate (44.4 percent) this past season. And despite a historically-bad campaign by Carolina's defense in 2024, the 26-year-old seems to believe his new unit can be similar—or even better—than his last. "I definitely think we could do something similar, if not better," Jones said, via Newton. "I've seen it before, so I know what it looks like. I look around the building and see we have exactly what it takes to do that." https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/24/panthers-pat-jones-vikings-espn/83840667007/?taid=683219b347846900018fa10a&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter     It's the offseason.  Let hope spring eternal. (actually, I think we are much closer than this board thinks)
    • 5 total TDs against the Falcons was pretty good efficiency and he showed that ability to go off scripts and get 2 of those TDs rushing.  How many times did he deliver big time throws against pressure.  I agree we need to see this offense operate at high efficiency which starts with Bryce. When he does I hope the goals posts won’t shift to some other stat like QB sneaks lol
