Will Cam be coddled?

I think that when you're evaluating Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen as far as a starting position is concerned, you have to take into consideration, especially with Clausen that this is going to be a totally different offensive scheme.... so they're all going to be in "learning mode." I would hardly call Jimmy Clausen experienced... but compared to Cam, he has game experience. I think they should let these guys battle it out and whoever shows up starts.

Its not like bringing in a veteran guy will help us win games. It depends on the tools around him. Cam Newton is a totally different kind of Athlete all together. That cannot be overstated. If we're in rebuilding mode... and we certainly are... Game experience is invaluable to this kid. If we're trying to pretend like we're going to make a deep playoff run next year... then maybe... but this is time that Cam can spend developing timing and chemistry with his offense. This is the best year to do that. We may not even have a full year of football on our hands.

Nothing about this situation is conventional... Trying to fit a Cam peg in a Jake hole wont work. And while you're trying to get Cam to learn from guys who have experience, they cant do any of the things that he can do athletically. Its a waste time and money. Its the coaches job to get him ready... let them do their job. Game experience is the best experience for this kinda talent.

Its all about having that it factor, and Killa Cam has that and more. He knows the blitz is coming. The only thing he needs to worry about is learning the play book!!!

I know college stats don't mean squat but right now that's all I have. Cam not only knew when the blitz was coming, he performed better. I'm not thrilled with the 49% on throws 15 yards or over.

all QBs on our depth char will be learning a new offense!

Whoever out performs the others in training camp will determine who starts!

I dont care if you are a 4th string running back like nick goings and knows every single play even backwards, theres no way your starting over DeAngelo Williams, hell theres no way your starting over mike goodson!

It all comes down to QB instincts, and progression on the field.

These are professional athletes, there will always be a learning curve, for the game is forever changing!

much more than likely he will play a lot this season, at least half of it.

if we had someone already entrenched in the role it might be different, but there really isn't any benefit in keeping him off the field for long. the sooner he can get on the field, get a feel for the game at the pro level (which can only happen in real game situations), and develop a chemistry with the oline and receivers the better.

if the offense is going to be essentially built around his skill set (which is happening) then he needs to be the one running it on the field.

I still can not wrap my head around the rationale that Cam, greenest of green rookies gives us the best chance to win. He haven't had a single OTA yet.

Me either, at this point that projection is pretty absurd. He may be the one but we don't even know who is going to be on the roster and as you said he is as green as they come.

unfortunate part for him and you, just like every other first pick before him, he comes in with a ton of expectations thrown upon him and it's going to take a whole lot of effort for the staff and FO to keep him on the sidelines for as long as he probably should be.

the thing is, i thihnk he feeds off those expectations, esp. the ones that people are vocal about him supposedly not being able to meet.

Lets see what happens between now and the end of August. Right now he wouldn't be our best chance at all. In a few months he might be. Then again it depends who we have to choose from. Last year when Moore went down, Clausen was our best chance to win. Problem was that it was a snowball's chance in hell.

Lets hope our best chance to win actually gives us a good chance to win the game not that it is simply the best option in a bunch of poor choices.
