Auburn Erecting a Cam Newton Statue

Auburn announced its plan to erect statues of its 3 Heisman Trophy winners, to include Cam Newton. When asked if erecting a statue of cam Newton was a little premature, the Auburn spokesman responded with the following:

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs says he has no reservations about erecting a statue for Cam Newton while an NCAA investigation continues.

Jacobs says "technically it's still an open issue." But he says nothing has changed since NCAA President Mark Emmert's comments in February that "there was no evidence that Auburn University had anything to do with" Newton's father soliciting money during recruiting."

Anyone who knows anything about journalism or politics KNOWS 'words matter'. The words you choose always have a purpose. Jacobs did not say 'Auburn did nothing wrong, Auburn did not pay Cam Newton or his father, or Cam Newton's father was never paid by anyone for Cam to play at Auburn'. He said 'there was no evidence'!

Cam Newton is now a Panther. I think he is an awesome athlete, and can potentially be the best Panther QB we have ever had. As long as he wears the uniform and his name is on the roster I will continue to pull for him because the Panther's success depends on his success. There is no way, however, that anyone will be able to convince me that Auburn did not pay Cam Newton's daddy for cam to play at Auburn or that Cam Newton never knew what his daddy was up to or did not end up with some of that money.

1st of all, NCAA violations in college football are not a matter of who is doing it but rather who does and who does not get caught.

- Look at Ohio State. Jim Tressel writes his book 'The Winners' Manual', and now it is being reported that as many as 50 (FIFTY) players and their families are being investigated for receiving cash, goods, and/or benefits while the players are/were playing for Ohio State!

2nd, there have already been ex-Auburn players who have said Auburn pays its players:

3rd, you can't tell me Papa Newton shopped his son to several different schools EXCEPT for the one he ended up playing for?!

As I said, the guy is a Carolina Panther now, and I can get behind him and pull for him to be a great player and QB for Carolina...

....just don't ask me to hold my nose, close my eyes, and 'swallow' the bad tasting story that the guy is completely 'clean'.

The end of the Lockout, however, and ths start of the NFL season will mark the end of one era and the beginning of another for Cam Newton. In his new era of playing football for the carolina Panthers, I hope he brings as much success to carolina as he did to the 2010 NCAA College Football chamion Auburn Tigers.

What's with all these statues lately?

Not saying he doesn't deserve one, but with all these statues it sort of devalues them.

all these statues?

it's just one that auburn is doing to honor their heisman winners.

Yes, all these sports statues. I am talking about UF's trio of Heisman's, Scottie Pippen, Saban...

I just feel like the statues are the thing to do now. I feel like with the way things are going someone is going to get statue that isn't worthy. It can be a slippery slope. I personally think they should be rare.

I'm good with said statue...

Here's what I'm not good with...

Once he starts rolling for us, and then the inevitable happens... It's discovered that he was in violation and they take his Heisman... That will effect his psyche and in essence OUR team! Im all about Cam, I'm just dreading the day that all of this happens. And it will. Mark my words... Heisman taken, Nationsl Championship stripped from Auburn, and the school put on probation... I can just hear every MAJOR outlet already asking Cam after a horrible Monday night performance... Cam did it have anything to do with them taking your Heisman, or knocking your statue down like they did Sadam's in Iraq!?

Obviously I don't think it happens this year, being I envision it to happen on a Monday night game... So that way they can chew him up and spit him out on the grandest of stages.

Time will tell in the end... And I honestly hope that I'm very wrong. Something in my gut won't allow me to believe that I'm wrong though.

All the crap he played well through this year, and you expect him to play bad if they take his heisman? Really?

This is pretty absurd.

Question, have you been living under a rock for months?

Let me "attempt" to help you (yes I know, possibly hopeless).

1. MSU reported the Bond situation and solicitation to the SEC over a year ago.

2. Auburn investigated the entire Bond situation and solicitation of payment as reported by MSU in the early summer of 2011 (almost a year ago).

3. The situation was leaked to the media last November (most likely by Urban Meyer).

4. AU had already performed an extensive investigation almost 4-6 months earlier (it was only news to the general public).

5. Based on their findings, AU continued to play Cam although AU briefly declared him ineligible for less than 24 hours so the NCAA could step in and state what AU already knew, he was 100% eligible under any and every NCAA rule.

6. The NCAA issued an additional statement in early December explaining AGAIN that Cam was an eligible player.

7. A few weeks ago Emmerit (president of the NCAA) basically said for the 3rd time that Cam was an eligible player all year.

8. An NCAA spokesperson clarified that the AU investigation is not over (primarily for other reasons).

9. At this point, everything and everyone that have ANYTHING to do with Cam have been investigated ad nausem. If AU gets in any trouble for anything you can be certain it is not going to be about Cam. That situation has been beat to death and the NCAA has declared him eligible and stated he broke no rules based on all present knowledge 3 separate times (and that is after a year of investigation by every wanna be investigator ever known in college football including thousands of bama fans).

10. Finally, lets say your absurd fears are realized (you should be MUCH more scared of dying in a volcanic eruption or something BTW), Cam seemed to handle adversity pretty well at AU last year.

 (off rant)

    • Just as we won those close games we could have just as easily lost them. So the jury is out on if we were more lucky than good ( see the sweep by the saints) Were moving forward on paper. And how badly dont we all want to see us back to at least Above average form. Its about time.
    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
