Cam's Q&A at Rookie Premiere

i like that he has that confidence that sanders and ali have/had. i want him to keep it. they didn't rest on past successes. they just kept going out time after time and proving that they are right to have it. it's all about proving to yourself and the world that you are the best. you fight to get there and get respect and then you fight to keep it. i've got faith that he will. screw false humility. that swagger and confidence is a huge part of what makes him good. thats something i don't want to change.

I've always been curious about how many people actually live this way, especially when the "employee mentality" is so prevalent in our society.. yet you hear people question football players all the time from their couch.

i don't think it's going to bother him much. i mean he rode through a lot worse last year and it didn't seem to phase him except in the sense it fueled him. he seems to be someone who can keep all that stuff in the right perspective. lots of people cave when they start getting negative attention in the pros...i mean look at vince young. the dude got nothing but praise his whole life but then when people started beating up on him he ran away. he didn't really have confidence in himself. newton seems to have tons of it. confidence like that doesn't get shaken very much.

i don't want him to get that "be humble" speech. i don't want jake delhomme v.2.

:iagree: and couldn't agree more.

I think our fanbase in general has gotten to accustomed to "flying under the radar" and having players that are "humble". While this is an admirable quality, swagger and confidence is that "it" factor that makes certain players great and produces winners. Can't wait to see his impact on the field and whether this propels the team to greatness.

I still wish he wouldn't pay so much attention to what "people" say.

He just needs to worry about being himself and not worrying so much about what others are saying about him.

IMO I really don't think Cam is as worried about what people are saying as much as he's taking what people are saying and adding it to his "mental chamber" - using the negativity to fuel his desire to prove them wrong and be a great player. This mental approach has worked for many of the great ones e.g. Emmitt Smith.

Meh. It seems in every interview he brings up what people say about him. It's fine if he wants to use what they say about him to fuel him, but he shouldn't address it in every interview, it just lets us know that it's getting to him. He really should let his play be his rebuttal.

"Women lie and Men lie, but numbers don't": Cam Newton X Carolina Panthers = Super Bowls

Well that's not true at all.

its not a bad thing to listen to what other people are saying and use it to motivate you....esp. if that isn't your sole source of motivation, which it isn't for newton.

as long as a person is motivated to be great, it doesn't really matter where that motivation comes from. it just needs to lead to action. not sure why it matters to anyone where someone draws their motivation anyway. different strokes for different strokes.

kind of silly to question or judge someone's motivation, imo. it's the effects that matter.

I'll admit I didn't want to pick him in the draft, but he makes it hard not to be hopeful that he's going to kick ass.

Same here. I'm coming around. He could still flake or flop but I don't think he will. I think the media and the haters read too much into what he says and/or the way he says things. He'll learn.
