Desperate for some Advice

Recommended Posts

As some of you may know, three weeks ago I left the States to study in Germany for six weeks. Currently I am half way through may six week stay. Unfortunately, last night upon returning from Berlin I was pick-pocketed in a large crowd. I had my wallet in the front pocket of my jeans and briefly remember making contact with several people while trying to make my way through the crowd. I don't particularly need the credits for the course, as my German Minor is already complete.

In the wallet was my driver's license, credit card, health insurance card, and a pre-paid public transportation card I need to travel in the city I am studying in. Thankfully I had no cash on me at the time. Without the credit card, I have no means to get cash and no one will be able to transfer money into my account.

I feel so stupid and am extremely pissed. I still have my passport thankfully so I would be able to fly home and cut my time here short. I just feel like there aren't many other options considering I have no way to get cash. At this point I'm thinking of talking to my program director, explaining the circumstances, and packing my bags and leaving early. I just don't see what else I can do. Hopefully she understands and will agree to refund the money for the weeks remaining of the program that I would miss.

Thoughts? Anything is appreciated. I guess this is all part of growing up and I will learn from my mistakes. Thanks everyone.

The drivers license isn't really necessary. You can deal with that when you get back. But the bank should be able to get a credit card to you fairly quickly, usually within 5-7 days. Have them send it to your parents house, and then your parents can fed ex it in a day. Or maybe they can fedex it directly to you.

Also, the US embassy in Germany might be able to assist you, especially if you need money in a hurry.

You can get money sent Western Union, and probably buy a prepaid debit card with it. Insurance card, like Squirrel said. Drivers license, if you actually need it to drive, you can just show the police report and say another one is on the way. Your hotel should have a copy of your IDs.

If you have an idea where it happened, go look around. Once they found no cash, they might have thrown it in the bushes.

    • I'm probably one of those posters, but I make those posts because there are too many things going on that don't make sense. For instance, how does a RB that does something that hasn't been done in 14 years immediately get reverted back to 2nd string, and it takes a leadership council to make him the starter when he's averaging 3x the YPC? Your average fan shouldn't be screaming that for 2 weeks before the coach sees it. And that's one of many.  What you're seeing is frustration that we could be better, that we should be better, if our owner, FO, and coaches could do things that are so painfully obvious to even the most basic fan
    • Cowboys. Patriots. Couldn't ask for two bigger villains.
    • I think we're all struggling with what things are right now and what they have been. It's like getting ready to have bandages removed after a long period of injury. The healing, the new growth, they aren't going to be pretty, there's going to be some ongoing issues for a while at best and there's every chance that we're going to have to go back into the bandage situation all over again. And that sucks. But it's also a place where maybe, just maybe, the recovery is going to finally start happening. The bad days will be getting behind us.  It's not going to happen this year, but I believe from what I see that this year is showing that improvement. We focus on the QB because that's what all the pundits focus on, because it's the flashiest and most heralded position on the field. No one wants to put out a tweet about how a center is holding down their job and anchoring a line. They rarely celebrate that blocking tight end or special teams gunner. That fourth CB on the depth chart? Not a mention. And yet, those guys are the kind that we've been building here, we're building the lunch pail guys AND finding some future stars.  Is Bryce one of them? Might be a cornerstone of the team in the future as the second QB, might somehow just show out to end the season. Might flame out like many expect. But if that uncertainty is all we concentrate on, we're just going to miserably look at this team and maybe miss out on some solid green shoots that are finally beginning to poke through into the sunlight.
