A little David Gettis love

Carolina Panthers

WR David Gettis(notes) – A sixth-round pick in 2010, Gettis could become the Panthers’ No. 1 wide receiver. He started 13 games in his rookie campaign and made 37 catches for 508 yards (13.7 average), and he did that with an awful situation at quarterback. Gettis was one of the few bright spots for Carolina during its 2-14 season. While it’s not certain Steve Smith will be traded, it appears likely that he will be playing elsewhere whenever the 2011 season begins, clearing a spot at the top of the WR depth chart. If Cam Newton(notes) or whoever lines up under center outdoes Jimmy Clausen’s(notes) 2010 performance, Gettis should have no trouble exceeding his production. He’s a vertical threat and the 6-foot-3, 216-pound Gettis has a great combination of size and speed. He still has to become more consistent and work on his hands to improve as a pass-catcher, but he could be in the conversation in discussions regarding the best young receivers in the league by the end of the season.

Been a Gettis supporter and fan since he began making noise in training camp last season. Was impressed with his route-running ability and the dude has some speed without a doubt. I am really looking forward to watching this kid play this season, both him and Lafell could become great for us. However, we have had receivers in the past do well early in their careers only to fall off.

11&12.

I remember a really long thread with people saying he wouldn't even make the team and a lot of us trying to convince so many otherwise about DG. People thought Wright, that white guy, or Edwards was gonna beat him out haha

Gettis, Hardy, & Martin were all bright spots last year in my eyes with Gettis glimmering like vega on a sh!t team

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
