Character question raised: Can Cam Newton create trust and lead under pressure? And answered: Last year, as Auburn football was nearly engulfed by allegations that Newton's dad sought payola for his quarterbacking services, Cam delivered the greatest season any college athlete has ever had, replete with no losses, the BSC National Championship, and the Heisman. Did you see that forty-nine-yard pachinko-ball dash against LSU? Or the 24–0 deficit he erased at 'Bama? Time and again, Newton waded into the lagoon in which his ten buddies had driven their pickup and flung the whole thing back onto the road. Gaudy as these exploits were, it was what you didn't see that may be the best indicator of what the number one overall draft pick will bring as a Carolina Panther. No matter how tight the squeeze, you never saw Cam Newton frustrated or even tense. A guy who generates 62 percent of his team's overall offense may be on fire, but he's not tense.

..Because when I think of acute, informed analysis on Pro Football, I think GQ.

JK. Good mention. Got no beef with our franchise guy getting some positive press. I'll have to pick up this month's issue. I just hope he does better then after Jawalrus Russel appeared in GQ.

I'm a huge Cam supporter. I look forward to him on the field. I expect him to make mistakes but I also expect him to those jaw dropping plays that make you say, Damn!! Did you see that? This kid has brought more hype and publicity to this team than ANY other player. I tend to compare him to the freakish athletic skills of Julius Peppers but with more heart and a ton more Charisma and personality.

They say a picture says a thousand words and what I see with JeMarcus Russell is a private jet and a $50,000 mink coat vs. a kid dressed like he just walked out of the gap or JCrew as well as Cam is holding a bag of footballs. This makes me wonder if either of them had a say so in what they wanted to wear and how they wanted to be depicted.

      Ironic that out of all of the multiple players listed, you zeroed in on Bryce Young and only Bryce Young. No mention of Derrick Brown or Jaycee Horn... Hell, we can even add Icky to the mix but sure... let's laser-focus on Bryce. That's a hell of a mirror for you to run into. 👀 I'm not sure what "wisdom" you think you're imparting to the front office beyond the idea that the being Panthers means that they're destined to suck forever. That doesn't exactly sound like wisdom as much as it sounds like the same relentless doompilling you've been committed to. But sure, let's pretend it's "rational" to condemn a pick after limited rookie action and an injury setback (and that anything less than full-blown pessimism is bootlicking). That's certainly the lighthouse we all need in the storm that you insist is eternal... at least until you and only you, decide it's not. Unlike you, I'm not asking anyone to leave. I'll just keep showing up with facts and context. You're more than welcome to keep showing up with doom and gloom.

      I'm excited for Scourton. Even if the sack numbers aren't there right away, he'll contribute and has a certain floor IMO. Would be thrilled if he can turn into a Charles Johnson-type contributor one day. Never a star (though, please do), but reliable and damn good at what he does.
