Not Guilty

Kinda like the jury for this guy...

(though the "party" aspect of her behavior brings to mind Robert Chambers more so than OJ)

So since you think OJ is guilty therefore so is Casey Anthony?? That makes little sense.

You said the jury took only a short time and was unanimous as if that was somehow evidence of her innocence. I pointed out to you OJs jury did that too.

Doesn't imply a connection between the two. Just points out that what you said doesn't really lend any credibility to her innocence.

I didn't say that. I said that the jury came back with a unanimous not guilty verdict in a short amount time. I am not trying to prove anyone's innocence. I'm simply saying no one proved she was guilty.

The reason I mentioned that it was a short deliberation is because it shows that they were likely on the same page so there wasn't a lot of division on the verdict. Not to prove she is innocent but to suggest maybe some shouldn't just presume her guilt.

BTW that post trial coverage on HLN has been an abomination and nothing but an indictment on our judicial system.

I really don't mind us having different opinions on her guilt here in the Huddle but it irritates me when media convicts her and declares her guilty after she is found not guilty. Opinion is welcome but throw some nuance in there.

I will stop after this post (maybe :)).

I want to better explain my position on all this. I don't know if she is guilty or not. I am not saying I think she is innocent.

But I get my feathers ruffled listening to people (mostly the media) just declare her guilty and blame the prosecution, the judicial system, the "stupid" jurors, etc. for reasons she was found not guilty. There is always the possibility that she is really is not guilty.

I have a family of trial lawyers and I have seen innocent people convicted because of basically a presumption of guilt manifested through the media. As someone mentioned earlier several people have been acquitted over new DNA evidence that were on death row or in jail for decades before they were cleared.

Because of that I try to never presume guilt or innocence. And I think some people (again especially in the media) should understand that just because they think they are guilty it doesn't make it so until it is proven. And if you are a media type you should especially tread lightly on blaming people for a verdict you don't agree with and personally convicting her on television despite the jury verdict.

As Panthro pointed out, I would rather a guilty person walk than an innocent go to jail.

uhhhh.....yes it is

basically, a jury will never come back and say, we find you innocent. never.

you can claim your innocence, but from the day you are indicted....you will either be found guilty or not guilty based on the evidence and facts presented in the case.

this is mostly true. Sometimes when people are later pardoned the term "found innocent" is used.

But a jury could never find this.

Not until my Worker's Comp. settlement goes through.

very wise... although it looks like you'll be on the hook for a while.. I guess no matter how many bridges I burn, I'll always have one friend who can't leave.
