The laws you are talking about put other peoples' lives in danger. The seatbelt law should be personal choice b/c it only puts the user in danger. Same for the helmet law.

the injured people put more strain on the emergency services. I don't see the ethical violation, anybody dumb enough to ride without a seatbelt or helmet isn't going to get any sympathy from me. A person who can't get a job or go to a good college because they smoked some weed is different.
