Anderson wants to remain a Panther

Recommended Posts

Per Rotoworld.com, a tweet from Joseph Person suggests from talking with James Anderson that he wants to stay in Carolina and is pretty confident a deal will get done.

Free agent OLB James Anderson feels "pretty confident" that the Panthers will re-sign him after the lockout.

It sounds like Anderson is open to re-signing during the initial 72-hour window, which would be a nice plus for the Panthers. The 27-year-old is coming off a breakout season at strong-side linebacker and can also play the weak side.

That's pretty exciting. I know some people on here don't want to overpay for Anderson, but I think it will be a reasonable contract. Hopefully we can re-sign Thomas Davis as well, and the combo of Davis/Beason/Anderson alone can garner another win or two. These guys are amazing when playing together and Rivera will really get the best out of all of them with his different packages.

Thoughts? I'm excited. Anderson showed a LOT of promise last year and I think Davis can come back off of his injury. No NFC South team has ever come 4th in the division back to back. Surely this is a sign of good things?

I've got a boner.

There are many boners to be had after CJ tweeted that he wanted Rice to come into Carolina, perhaps hinting that he would be here still (and he probably will).

Retaining our guys is something I've always liked about the team. I know everyone wants to make a huge splash every year in free agency grabbing Larry Fitz and Peyton Manning, but this team is a home-grown one.

GOOD SIGNS, GOOD SIGNS.

Here is the reality of the situation:

Anderson feels that his best chance of getting a good deal (and starting) is here. He is not a big name around the league. Beason playing WLB caused a lot of traffic on the strong side, giving him a lot of opportunities.

I want him on the team, but not necessarily as an everydown player on the strong side. I think Dan Connor will find the field more (Rivera likes him), and if TD is ready to go, Anderson could find himself at SLB on passing downs, WLB in relief of Davis. Who knows, but it is a good problem to have if you do not pay too much. I would think an average of $3-4 million per year on a four year deal is about what he is worth.

I agree with most of this, particularly Connor. Dude showed he could play -put the man on the field.

    • Another Guard?? Small ball was just a meme right?????   Again can anyone confirm Kon had more than 2 dunks for the season?? I watched more highlights and saw lots of layups. Did see one thunder dunk tho...   Jeff just needs to finish this off-season with a guard package trade for a PF/C. Call Portland, that's a start!
    • XL treatment is in the top 5 What The Fuccks for the the huddle. It just happens that the 32nd team and 33rd team GMs knew each other very well. Panthers viewed the 5th year option as being worth a late 6th and a trade was made to make XL a 1st rounder.  He had injuries in OTAs, mini camp and TC. Like others had more injuries in season and just kept playing. Half the season was bad BY and dalton. He still had 500 yds, 5 TDs, and like 45 recs.  Just super weird the treatment. BTW people love to focus on the bad plays, but there was only one WR that caught a TD on the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year, can you guess who that was?? By many accounts the Pats wanted XL badly and had to select Polk instead, there's strong rumors that Polk is either going to be cut or traded for a 2078 7th rounder. Panthers could have easily been in this situation if not for the Bills allowing the trade up. It pays to have friends.... I feel XL will force some fans to plates of raccoon as he develops. (please stay healthy)
