Maybe the reason why we haven't heard about a possible Peppers trade?

New to the huddle here, just wondering if the main reason why we have only heard rumors and nothing definitive on a possible Peppers trade is because of the fact that Peppers hasn't signed his franchise tender yet, and thus all trade conversations must go through his agent?

Is there a specific time table as to when he has to sign this? Can the Panthers talk to his agent as a middleman in terms of a possible trade? It seems like it would be in the Panthers best interest to get a done quickly as possible (to make a move in FA), but Peppers is preventing it...

All that means is other teams can negotiate a contract with him (and in turn have to fork over 2 1st's) instead of having to enter trade talks with us directly.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I would rather have Peppers just sign the franchise tender so we have the flexibility to negotiate on our own. His agent can still get offers, but at least the FO can explore their own options.

I think this may be why we haven't heard anything yet, along with the fact that the Panthers are waiting for the first wave of free agents to go through...

This thing is gonna drag out till camp if the agent is in charge.

Which gives Peppers even more leverage. If he does drag it out till camp it would still keep up from spending that Cap space on a replacement and we don't even know if he is going to be with the team. The more I think about it the more I am willing to take less for Pep. We either need to know he is going to stay or get him gone so we can pick up some FA's.

Your right, the team can't talk to anyone about Peppers at all, against the rules. All deals have to be done through his agent, then brought to the panthers attention, because he hasn't signed his franchise tag offer.

Peppers has a franchise tender and cannot be traded until he signs it, which means any trade discussions must go through his agent, Carl Carey. Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, Carolina is prohibited from discussing a deal for Peppers with another team. If the Panthers did, it immediately would bring an NFL Players Association grievance.

Cassel had a signed contract and was trade-able, just like any other player with his contract. Once he signed the franchise tender, he forfeited his rights to broker a deal. It’s why the Patriots were able to trade Cassel to the Chiefs on Saturday morning without the blessing of the quarterback and his representative.

These are minor points but points of clarity. New England was able to trade Cassel. Carolina cannot trade Peppers — not until he has signed his franchise tender, which he has not.

And it’s hard to envision finding a team that would satisfy Peppers’ wishes and the Panthers’ asking price.

If Peppers signs the contract he loses his power, the team can then trade him anywhere, not just the 4 teams he is demanding, he's not gonna sign the tender

He will absolutely sign the tender at 29 years old, but not till the last minute. He may be dumb, but he's not that dumb...

It's who blinks first and my bet is on Fox/Hurney...

:)

This line of thinking is why I said let him walk from the very beginning, tag Gross instead of locking him up long term, and avoid what I perceived inevitable from the very beginning.

We could have escorted him and a box of his stuff to the door and had a presser stating that it has been great but we are moving on. Many thanks to Pep. We then could have focused on EVERY free agent and trade opportunity from the very beginning instead of being handicapped throughout and not knowing what we have to work with or what areas to even focus on.

I think so too. The problem is time and opportunity. How much will pass and how many are we gonna miss while this pissing contest carries on?

    • Ok.  I see that signs may not obstruct others view.  That seems to be a pretty large sign, and since they are in the front, if they were to hold it up, I feel it would obstruct others view. I don't see the point in holding the sign in their laps. If I were in securities shoes, I would just tell them to put it up, so that I don't have to keep a constant eye on them because not everyone listens and will just wait until I turn my back to raise the sign again.  I see no point in holding a sign on your lap where it can not be seen unless you are just waiting to break the rules again. The amount of time they have "gotten away" with this is still irrelevant.  For all we know, someone complained they could not see because of the sign.
    • Cows fan with just some info.      Some good points from y'all but some that are poorly thought out too.   Dallas played the last game (Jets, 0-4) with 4 OL starters out, Cee Dee Lamb out, #3 WR Kavontae Turpin out (he's also the League's #1 returner), #2 RB Miles Sanders out (avg 5.8 ypc).  Dak is playing very well as is Javonte Williams and George Pickens.   Cows have a lot of offensive depth and talent and are/were the #1 offense in the League.  416 yards last week and close to another 40 burger.  They suck on D ! DC Matt Eberflus plays a very soft over the top zone.  Russell Wilson (NYGiants) shredded the Cow's D for 450 passing yards  (I think there were 7 plays of 30+ yards).  In the 2nd half of the Fudge Packers game Dallas D never got a stop thus there was a tie (40-40).  With only a D ranked around the middle of the NFL pack Dallas could probably be 4-1.   Their D sux badly.   They did get a few sacks (5) against Justin Fields last Sunday in NJ otherwise they gave up 380 yards against the Jets.   We are very familiar with Rico Dowdle.
