"I don't know what I did, but it worked."

Wow. How about cutting the kid some slack? Jeez, I have scars older than he is. So he's young and not a master of the metaphor. Off the cuff remarks may not be his strong suit. I'm more concerned with his willingness to learn and do what he must to win. So far he gets high marks from me on that score. From what I've read on this board, there are quite a number of us who could probably use a little bit of help with elocution, too.

I'm sure Cam keeping quiet about their private practices, went a long way with Smitty. Also I can see their relationship developing to a point where Smitty becomes protective over Cam. Since their lockers are next to each others, I'm sure he'll be monitoring plenty of Cam's interviews.
just as long as he doesn't turn into a blubbering TO "he's mah quarterback! it's not fair!", i'm cool with that.

We all know Smitty doesn't yell, he breaks noses. Let some jackass reporter in the locker room after a loss try to pin sole responsibility on Cam. The headline on SportsCenter will read "Panthers WR Steve Smith sued after breaking reporter's face."

dude sounds real arrogant...

"I know me and Jimmy are battling for the starting spot, but I'm learning a lot of things from Jimmy. He's helping me out through this process, and, hopefully, I can help Jimmy out also," Newton said. "The golden rule is that competition brings out the best in everybody, but at the end of the day, we're still teammates. We still have respect for each other.

"It's not like he's walking to practice and I'm running, trying to get to practice before he is. It's a comfortable, competitive relationship."

The point of the post was that Cam is acting right now, and every once in a while he slips into the person that he has always been. But listen, I'm not complaining. If the guy comes in and wins games like he did at Auburn he can be as self-centered (edit: "sarcastic") as he wants. All I'm saying.. is if he goes out and doesn't win games... you will look back and see that the clues were all there.

I will tell you some clues. We draft Cam, all of a sudden, we don't hear much about Smitty. Then, after the draft, Smith invites Cam to help at his camp. Then, we find out that Smith and Cam have been working out FOR WEEKS. Then, Smith comes out and says he wants to retire a Panther. If you think Cam doesn't play a HUGE role in Smith's decision to stay, you're blind. Sure, I can buy it was probably more a frustration thing from last year and then the realization that he didn't want to move his family out of the Charlotte area. But, Cam played at least a 40% role in Smith wanting to stay.

What is "the person he has always been" that he supposedly "slips" back into being? A champion? A winner? That is who he is. What we see now is him trying to stay out of the spotlight so he can focus. It isn't just an act. It's him understanding what he needs to do, as an individual, to prepare.

Cam Newton is not a problem. Cam Newton is not overly-confident nor is he insincere. His swag is simply too much for you to handle.

    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
    • Certainly not going to miss his constant whiffs on sacks and tackles.
