So, any chance we could snatch up a QB late?

Bulger is still available and I don't think are many other good options for a veteran QB still available.

I know I read a non-statement from Hurney where Darrin Gantt asked if we would go after Bulger or Delhomme still and Hurney said we haven't yet but its possible.

That's some insight right there.

Like your sig btw (to the OP).

If we ****** up one this late it will most likely be Derek Anderson because he already know's most of the formations and systems, that way if we need him to start week one he can. I don't think anyone else could come in and learn the playbook that fast with not being able to practice with the team until August 4th.

I agree that Anderson would be the most logical choice from the Panther's perspective.

But is Carolina the most logical choice from Anderson's perspective? He's been a starter. You would think he would want to sign somewhere where he has a chance to be a starter again.

I don't think Carolina gives him that opportunity except maybe in the most SHORT of terms.

Bulger is the same way, if Carolina wants a QB that they know will be the second guy but can also come in a play if need be, well sadly that guy will probably be Delhomme. He obviously hasn't played well in a long time but he has showed the capability in the past albeit in the very, very late past, but you know he wouldn't have a problem being the second guy.

I do want a VET QB presence for any questions the young guys may have and it sounded like Hurney is looking into it from his presser the other day.

One we can remove from the possibility list is Volek, he just re-signed with Chargers for 2 years. I just don't see Bulger wanting to come here and sit. Could end up being BSP again honestly.

Please not BSP, he had little starting experience coming into last year and could not give any help to anyone on the roster let alone our rookie quarterback. He was probably wondering why the hell he was even on the field.

I agree 100% that we need a veteran QB at least for a few weeks. I was never big on throwing Cam into the mix, early on, as a rookie, but considering the limited off-season he has, we'd be foolish to even consider it now. I don't know who is out that, that we think would work in this system and groom Cam. Daunte Culpepper comes to mind, but I don't know the circumstances of his UFL contract and if he would even fit in here? I would like to find somebody who is familiar with Chudzinski's style.

I'd prefer not to as well, but Matt had more starting experience and we let him walk... Volek is off the market. Besides Jake and Bulger, I can't think of any other Vet QBs with significant starting experience who would come on the cheap.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
