Source: Panthers Willing To Trade For Asante Samuel

It has showed recently, apparently the media doesn't know everything. I mean did anyone else see any real reports saying that Aso was going to Philly? I sure didn't, every single thing I read was Jets or Cowboys, and yet almost a whole of the national media was wrong. So in conclusion, i've gotten to the point where I take most of what I hear from the media with a grain of salt but stay optimisic.

Eagles want to get rid of Samuel due to his salary. He's salary for next year is almost $9m... At 31 and $9m salary they wont be able to trade him, only option is to cut him. It is better for Eagles to trade him now. I think for 4th next year and 4th in 2013 should do it. Eagles lost many LBs this year, so they might go for Dan Connor and 4th.

It's w/e, i'd like to see him in Carolina if we don't give up too much (but i don't see that happening), so Cromartie would probably be our best bet knowing we probably wouldn't have to re-structure his contract, he's a free-agent, and he's younger. But hopefully we could bring in one of these guys fir the right price.

As much as we need another cb, I don't want Samuel. Mainly because of age and considering that we are still a couple of years away from playoff contention and making a run in the NFC. By the time we are cruising a long with Cam, Olsen, our WR's maturing, our D-line maturing, etc. Samuel's contract will be up. We've done a lot of positive things thus far, and as long as we can sign a #2 corner whether it be Cro, Hayden, Rogers, or someone else that gets cut, I'll be happy. Yes, the need has to be addressed, but giving Philly compensation and paying that high salary limits us over the next few years of Samuel's contract. If Asante was 26 or 27, I'd feel better, but he's approaching the wrong side of his career, age-wise.

as long as we keep our 2nd rounder(and first obviously) I'm all for making this trade. unfortunately, after seeing the Eagles bend over Arizona for a backup quarterback I can only imagine what they'd get out of a legitimate pro bowl corner.
