LaFell Odd Man Out?

If anything, I'd say traded, not cut. And if you put a gun to my head, I'd likely say neither.

But anything is possible. And given that we have a new coach, and that coach has expressed some unhappiness with his receivers of late, it's tough to say any option is off the table.

Depends on just how down Rivera might be on his performance.

If, say, he were down enough to cut him, then a fifth rounder is better than nothing.

That's farfetched, mind you, but not impossible.

Didn't Ochocinco get traded for a 5th. I'm pretty confident that's not happening.

If carolina, a team that needs WR's cut him... what's going to make anyone else think he's valuable enough to give up draft picks for? Come on man... you've got to be more realistic. I mean even Santonio Holmes got traded for a 5th round pick.

Fifth was Saltman's suggestion. I was just responding to him.

As to what's reasonable for LaFell, that's a debate in itself.

I am not even going to back up any of my comments with stats, because the thought of LaFell getting cut is ridiculous. Especially from Tweeter comments and without even having a preseason game.

A cut, or practice squad is certainly possible. In fact, last year we sent our previous year's 3rd round pick to the practice squad (Irvin).

And next practice we will be running 4 WR sets with Pilares, AE, Smitty and Barnridge. I am not gonna be jumping to conclusions. I do think Naanee was brought in to light a fire under Lefell, AE and Gettis. We are gonna carry 5 WR's and Lafell will be one of them.

Lafelle is Dewayne Jarrett 2.0. He like he is AWESOME, and he just isnt. After watching him in training camp my opinion is he is lazy and feels like it should just be handed to him. You have receivers like Trent Guy that never drop a ball and run great routes but dont have his size and they end up on the practice squad. If Lafelle had that kind of drive and heart he would be a probowler every year. Some people have it and some people dont. My opinion is Lafelle doesnt. Gettis to me is a much better receiver and is faster than any of them. We the personnel we have I would drop him like a hot potato and I dont care what we paid for him. Time to get rid of the dead weight. And please drop NICK FRIGGIN HAYDEN while your at it.

Can anyone remind me of any strong play LaFell made last season besides that one freakish one-handed catch late in the season? I sure can't. He's okay compared to the receivers we've had in the past 5 or 6 years, but he's not close to NFL starter material right now.

He had another amazing catch today.

    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
    • Certainly not going to miss his constant whiffs on sacks and tackles.
