Mallett/Gabbert/Cam/Ponder/Locker

Gabbert did awesome in my opinion.. if it weren't for 3 drops by his WRs then he would have went 12/16 for like 150 yards. I know there were no TDs but 75% comp is really impressive.. along with his decision making.

Not really pressure, but if there was any it would only be to the extent Cam can't wow people with his running ability. I don't think a single analyst would have called Cam a better pure passer than any of those guys. But he was drafted #1 because he was a decent passer + a freak athlete.

Those guys came out and put up solid performances and now it's Cam's turn.

Put it this way, if Cam doesn't show out, expect a few more "ESPN hates us and Cam" threads on Sunday morning.

I think it will be interesting to watch all of them throughout their careers considering how much debate their was and how we admittedly took the biggest risk for the possible biggest reward.

Mallett has/had upper first round talent and would have been taken early if he wasn't batpoo crazy/fuged in the head. The fact that he slid alllll the way into round three speaks volumes about his interviews/psych evals/background checks.

With more experience dropping back and being around the org and QB he is, I'm not that surprised he's sprinting out of the gate so far. He probably will look better than Newton for a while.

Hopefully just for a while, though.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
