Why you start Cam

CRA

Recommended Posts

Ron Rivera needs to name Cam the starter this week and move on....

Why you may ask?

B/c there are bigger issues than just Cam.....at this stage Cam is pretty much exactly what he was believed to be.....so sitting him for that isn't as logical as some might imply. Cam can run, Cam can throw good balls downfield when not under pressure, Cam can make decent throws short when not under pressure. Under pressure he is horrifically inaccurate.

Although some do not want to sit through it.....when Carolina drafted Cam it meant the team would take it's lumps with Cam in 2011. What drafting him meant is if the team around him looked like dog poo then we would have to watch performances like Thur night. It meant we would ride the rollercoaster of his horrific accuracy at times coupled w/ his big play ability. Cam is who we thought he was when we drafted him.

The bigger issues are what need to be addressed. There is no QB on this roster that can find success with the pass protection, lack of running game, and defensive effort we saw this week. Inserting Jimmy or DA into that....gives us no advantage as a team.

When we drafted Cam we were all knew he would NEED this....

-Decent OL play

-Decent time in the pocket -b/c when given time he goes from a horrible passer to fairly decent overall

-Decent run game

-Decent defense

Cam is getting none of that. That is the real problem. Cam's issues and poor play is expected......the OL, D, and ground game issues aren't.

Emphasis needs to be on supplying that and not the fake QB battle. If you give Cam those things.....you see more of his big play potential.....less throwing.....and a team going trying to win a Cam.

We all know Cam isn't ready. But with the effort and performance of the rest of the team.....he is the only QB on the roster built to survive it. Sitting Cam for fear of ruining him is just wasted and delayed time......the lumps and growing pains should not be delayed. Cam isn't built so that it will ruin him.

and on a final note.....keep in mind this is the preseason.

An example, this is what one of the best QBs of last season has done thus far.....with a "dream team" around him.......

Game 3 - 10/18 - 98 yards, 0 TDs

Game 2 - 5/12 -47 yards, 0 TDs, 3 INTs

Game 1 - 4/6- 74 yards, 1 TD

Teams and players aren't up to speed......that goes for vets in the same system. So let's keep things in perspective and quit overreacting so much.....overreacting is fine after a quarter of the regular season has been played.

To the OP. I have to agree with you. But to me it seems like the guys arent even motivated. If 2-14 and been the laughing stock of the league doesnt motivate you then what will. I put most of this on the coaching staff somebody needs to light a fire under these guys. Somebody needs to step up and be a leader. Our Oline is playing bad our WR arent getting open. What do you expect Cam to look like. The way he has played the last two weeks you would think he is the best player on the team because there arent anybody doing anything except him and Greg olsen on offense.

Its really clear Our Oline needs to get it together and our WR needs to step up. If not we wont win any games this season. Because our defense probably cant stop a JV highschool team from running and throwing on them. Remember when everybody was saying oh we are going to be aggressive How? You cant blitz if you cant cover.

We need help and we need it bad.

Why you ask?

Because the whole organization wants to save face

not really saving face.....but they drafted Cam and kept and realitively weak QB roster. Doing that.....they should start Cam. Bottom line is Cam shouldn't be good right now.....he should show flashes in the garbage. He already does that.

I don't like getting into what we should or could of done....based on what we did Cam should be our starter this year.

I think Beason being in the game will make a huge impact against the run. Also, Cincy had a couple of screens that Beason would have run down, but Connor could not. I think Thomas Davis and James Anderson had great games...lots of speed. I think we'll see a big difference on D once Beason gets healthy.

As far as Cam goes... he has looked better than Clausen this entire pre-season. His drive early in the 3rd quarter showed that this offense can get into a rhythm. Get Otah back, get Schwartz back, get Goody back, and I think we'll be in business. Cam showed he can run against an NFL defense last night, and we've seen he can make the throws. He's a rookie, so there will be some bad throws... but all in all, I'm pleased with what I've seen from Cam, given his supporting cast.

Oh...and Olsen is a BEAST.

I was shocked by the D we saw...not just performance but the called scheme. With it being the 3rd preseason game I expected more blitzing and doing it in creative ways. Too often it looked like Fox's D....rush the front 4 and sit back.

Yea the big difference will be that the pulling guards will be molesting Beason instead.

    • They traded away their 1st next year also to get James Pearce Jr. Really hope this blows up in the Falcons face. I don't care how it happens, I just want to win the division this year. Zero sympathy for other team's issues. And our pass rush looks like it needs all the help it can get.
    • I would have released him this season, tbh and worked with Christensen out there.
    • 10/10. We're due for some good luck, and I think this team is much better than what we've had the last 2 seasons. Defensive injuries could derail us b/c our depth there is still questionable. Still worried about the pass rush getting pressure without blitzing. Pleasantly surprised by the secondary and run defense.  Dan Morgan has done a lot to resurrect this roster from the deplorable position Fitterer left it in by showing some scouting chops with hitting on these guys drafted in the later rounds or UDFAs. Lathan Ransom & Corey Thornton both look like they fit this scheme and the NFL isn't too big for them.  I'm as excited for the rookie trifecta of T-Mac, Scourton, and Princely as I can remember. On paper, this offense is the most talented since 2021, maybe 2017, and maybe 2015. None of that means this team will produce any better, but this team has offensive talent & depth like we have rarely had in team history. If you don't believe me, go Google it. We've had some awful offensive collections overall in many years, to varying degrees mitigated by superstar talents like Steve Smith, Christian Mccaffrey, or Cam Newton.  I honestly think the collective offensive talent in 2025 may be better, but Cam was so otherworldly in 2015 & 2017 that he covered any flaws. Seriously, though, Cam doesnt get enough love for 2017. I think that may have been his best season. In general, Cam doesn't get enough respect IMHO. Both in college and in the NFL, Cam took teams that without him would have had no chance and won. True definition of a guy who elevated his team. To be clear, I am in no way am I saying this team will be better than 2017 or 2015. My point is that the offensive talent is there on offense if Bryce can unlock it.  I've been a Bryce supporter, but there are no excuses not to perform with this group. This isn't the disaster we gave him in 2023 or a new scheme like in 2024 where I think he hadn't mentally removed from his rookie season to start. I dont know how you couldnt be excited about that. And we still compete in a division that isn't insurmountable. I got got in 2023 like most of us in buying into the team propaganda, but in general, I think I'm pretty realistic about the team. I knew in my heart we would be bad last year. I wasnt expecting the defense to be that bad or Bryce to start off that poorly, but I had no expectations whatsoever for making the playoffs. And I genuinely think we will be competitive all year this season. I think we win 8-9 games and compete for the division. I think the ceiling is 11 wins, and the floor is 7. The good news is after next week, we will all be proven right or proven wrong. Keep Pounding!
