Cam's Amazing Stats... Not Kidding

How would Cam have been a fool for not reading the field if he found a WIDE OPEN SMITH who then dropped it?? That wouldn't have been Cam's fault at all...

There's a massive problem when throwing to our #1 receiver who is wide open and has like 30 yards of space is considered a risk...

I think the point is that those who are complaining that Cam ran for 20 yards and got a first down on that play would have also been complaining that (in the hypothetical situation you mention above) he should have never thrown it since he had 20-30 yards of open field in front of him.

You know very well that someone would have argued that Cam took a dumb decision by risking a drop and had he read the field he would have seen the open lane and run it.

I have not seen anyone say that yet actually, so it'd be new. is it possible? Sure, but it'd be retarded. While many of you guys think that some of us are arguing that everything Cam does is wrong, that's not exactly that case, it's more that not every good play is perfect how it was... It's just about improvement.

Not sure why you guys are astonished that there are people that would prefer our quarterback hit our wide open #1 receiver rather than taking off when he did.

As above, I really doubt that. It's possible, I can't predict what people would say, but one of the complaints that even Cam fans have had is that he isn't always finishing his reads and finding the open guy when it's someone underneath (or isn't taking that open guy if he is seeing them).

Honestly, it was far from a bad play but my hope is that Cam finds things to improve in every play, and I personally think he is working on that stuff. I don't fault him for running when he's in the situation he is in now, but it is the kind of thing where I expect in time he'll be hitting Smitty in stride for an even bigger gain.

Guy stop comparing Newton's running success to Vick's. Newton is 6'6 and his legs will not carry him his whole career. Vick is a small scrawny guy. Newton's success will be in the pocket and running around in the backfield. It would worry me if Newton had a lot of success on the ground because what happens when he slows down? Why do we have double trouble? I want to see Cam scrambling around first. A couple runs are fine but you guys are saying 1,000 yards a season lol you must be joking.

If you are giddy because Cam (Notice no Cameron?) had another big play with his legs, for Zod's sake be giddy.

For those of you who are sad because Cam made the wrong decision, by all means be sad. Cam is a rookie, I can almost guareendamtee you this sort of thing is going to happen from time to time.

Neither side is going to dissuade the other. But by all means continue. I have the In-laws this weekend, I need all the giddy I can get.

And as for me? I say, GOOOOOOOOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its not "some of you" I am refering to and you know that very well. And yes it would be retarded. Look in EVERY single Cam thread and someone is retarded.

Why are you astonished that someone think a 19 yds run on a 3rd and 10 is not a "bad" play? He made the safe choice and I am happy about that. THe one thing he did wrong was not sliding and risking a fumble or injury. Had he thrown the ball many things could have gone wrong.

And I am out of the Cam debate... Have a nice day:cheers2: And lets look forward to many more Cam mistakes as in the play in question.

What's the problem with calling Cam his full name (Cameron)?

I did a little research and never found one piece of evidence of Cameron. Evidently I was wr..., wr..g, w.o.g, incorrect calling him Cameron. I cannot for the life of me remember where I picked it up. For all I know, I made it up, another one of those flashy back things maybe?

If someone could validate this, I would appreciate the help.

His name is listed as Cameron "Cam" Newton on Wikipedia and AuburnTigers.com, and I'm positive I've seen "Cameron Newton" used for him in various news stories and press releases when he was in college. Pretty sure his nickname is Cam, full name Cameron Jerrell Newton.

Thanks. I guess I could have just googled him. I looked at various rosters, and a few articles. So I was right, always good to get confirmation. After 20 years of marriage it feels good to be right.

So Cam was short lived. Cameron it is. And GOOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Newton is fine scrambling around while he is learning the offense and working on his mastery of the offense and the quarterback position. When he gets older and slows down he will also have years of experience and be able to do what you suggest which is stay in the pocket. But that is years down the road not now. So there is no reason for him not to use his running skills now.

As for getting a 1000 yards running this year, that averages out to 62 yards a game. Look at what he has done so far in preseason. His totals could go way down if they put a spy or two on him all the time but honestly for him that means he will run perhaps on 4 or 5 broken plays a game. Not hard to imagine at all.

if the oline, williams and stewart can stay healthy i can see the team rushing for over 3000 yards this year. between 34/28/33/1 and the occasional WR carrying the ball, it could easily happen.
