Only 3 DTs = 3-4 Defense Sunday?

Insert Facepalm Pic Here...

Do you understand how different the gap assignments are for the front 7 in a 4-3 as opposed to a 3-4? It's like night and day. No way the coaching staff would waste a week of practice just to change the defense for one week. Not to mention our personnel isn't even closed to equipped to it. No NT, CJ can play an end in a 3-4 skillset wise(albeit a bout 25 lbs too light), but no one else can play the other end. Hardy isnt big enough to hold double's for long enough to let the LB's make a play, and Norwood is even smaller. Not to mention about 85% of ur pass rush comes from ur OLB's, and while I think TD and Anderson are GREAT 4-3 olb's, they have very very little in game experience rushing the passer from the edge. Give even kevin kolb more time than the abundance he probably will already have this weekend, he will look like dan freaking marino against our secondary.

If you didn't feel like reading that then here is the abridged version: It would be moronic to run a 3-4 for 1 week. That is all.

But as I said the coaching staff said they were going to show some 3-4 and have been implementing concepts of the 3-4.

And God forbid it hurts our awesome defense that we have put on display to this point. Are we going to give up 27 points a half to the Bengals instead of 24??

Our defense isnt as bad as people are crying it out to be.

When Chad Henne, Charlie Batch, and Andy Dalton look like pro bowlers and you D-line can't stop the run against anybody and makes Jonathan Dwyer look like Emmitt Smith......

Let's just say I admire your optimism.

without some major starters.

Steeler game, the starting defense was good on 3rd down.

Lord knows (so why don't you?) That the team isn't showing all it's cards.

I'm not expecting perfection, but i'm also not running up the white flag like you, and others are doing.

Really only Beason hasn't played right??

I am not throwing the white flag but are you satisfied at this point with Neblett and two rookies as your only interior lineman?? What if two of them get hurt Sunday??

Ron Rivera said that he wanted to come out and win the first preseason game, and they did.

From that point on he said no such thing; they were evaluating and learning, and I think probably regardless of what the opposing team was doing.

You guys are putting far too much stock into what the freaking Dolphins were able to do on us while they were going for it on 4th downs and intentionally trying to run clock in the freaking preseason.

If our D-line is seriously that bad, why did it take them 5 plays in a row from their 1 yard line to score? That's not to say our line is good, and we absolutely should sign a veteran as soon as possible, but come the hell on. I'm pretty sure Rivera started a 6th round scrub at NT for the Chargers and made him into a solid player on the #1 defense.

Then we'd bounce CJ inside, like Ron said he'd do sometimes anyways.

That's a silly "what if," though. What if a meteor hits the stadium?

isatisfied? Gawd, you must be an idiot.

Name me one dt that is available, that will be able to start for us this sunday. Just name one. Be realistic, and not full of poo please.

Our situation is what it is.

We have one of the best defensive minds in the nfl as our head coach (which you and everybody else is forgetting), why can't you believe our coaches have a plan?

No street dt is going to make an impact this sunday. Accept it. Ya don't have much of a choice, as neither does anybody else including me.

You may be right, but I would be lying if I didn't say that I felt that maybe you are not putting enough stock in the preseason. It is one thing for the first team to struggle a little in the preseason. It is another when they are virtually non-existent.

And the what if isn't silly. Losing two interior lineman in the same game happens all the time. But even if one gets hurt do you expect the two DTs that are left to play every snap??

I do believe our coach has a plan. That was the point of the OP. He was speculating on what that plan may be.

We don't need a DT that can start (although that would be great) we need on that can fill a depth chart so we aren't trying to play a DE in the middle of a 4-3 in case any of our DTs get hurt. Or are the two guys left over going to play every snap without rest??

i noticed ya didn't name one dt that willl make an impact this sunday.

Our guys are going to have to suck it up, and execute the game plan.

This if pro football...not fantasy football.

Glad you noticed. But that is not my point.

The point is that if we intend to stay in a 4-3 we are going to need more than 3 DTs and soon. If we play a 3-4 then we can get away with 3 DTs for now. So the OP is simply asking whether we are going to play 3-4 this Sunday due to the fact that we don't have any DTs. Considering Rivera has already said we were going to run some 3-4 I didn't think it was that ridiculous a proposition

We don't need an impact player. We need bodies if we truly are going to play 4-3.

That impact player isn't going to magically appear in week 3 when one of our DTs get hurt. So why wait??

What you guys think? Practices are shut down to the media so who the hell knows? Maybe they go with that on Sunday just to get by? After AZ we pick up a DT or 2 without guaranteed $ & shift back to base 4-3? Thoughts?

Fox often carried four DTs on roster but made the fourth inactive on game day, so going into a game with only three active DTs isn't necessarily unusual.
