Well Im pretty sure someone was supposed to run a check there... Thats why the Beason injury was so bad... no one to command the defense.

Exactly. The DC calls the play in the huddle, BEFORE he gets to see how the offense lines up. The MLB is responsible for calling an audible if necessary.

The offensive line honestly wasn't that bad on the whole. It was just a case of when they were bad they were VERY bad, but when they were good they were VERY good. That blitz pickup on the first long play to Smith was a thing of beauty. They overload blitzed that side and Stewart picked up the excess player and they formed a nice wall to give Cam enough time to recognize Smith being wide open.

You don't have 400+ yard days through the air with a rookie QB without your offensive line playing pretty decent on passing downs. Cam held the ball too long in many instances but on the whole, they gave him time to do his work. I didn't count a ton of plays where Cam was dead meat before he touched the ball the way we saw last year for example.

Chris Gamble played a hell of a game today against one of the best WR in the game today. Props where props are due here. Additionally, props to the safeties for providing help over the top.

The defensive ends were VERY strong all game. We were getting pressure with three down linemen which I haven't seen since Rucker and Peppers were on the same unit. Our intermediate pass defense and defensive tackle play were HORRIBLE today and we allowed Beanie Wells of all people to hit the hole with a full head of steam. Our tackles were getting pushed under the boards on every running play and if our linebackers didn't clean up it was an 8-10 yard run on every play.

Surprised nobody has said Legedu. Guy didn't even look like he was trying on half of the plays. Specifically when Newton threw up a fade for him in the endzone and he was basically trotting towards it instead of running.

Edit: Just seen an entire thread dedicated to his suckiness. Good job huddle.

I agree with most of what you said Vagrant. Only disagree about Wells. He had some very good hard runs, but our DTs didn't get blown up consistently like against the Bengals in preseason. Even being pretty much their only RB for the whole game I don't think he got 100 yards. He did pick up some good chunks at times, but he got stuffed a lot too. And those plays were mostly thanks to the DTs.

    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
