What are other boards saying about Cam ???

*new theory*

everyone isn't racist, though some are, but everyone wants to be right.

so Cam coming out and lighting things up makes them look stupid, hurting their egos, making them butthurt, and bitching about how he still sucks.

I don't know about you guys, but I am GLAD I was wrong.

so it comes down to it just being an ego thing.

If people cannot see the double standard that has been placed on QBs of a certain nature and other QBs drafted in similar spots that are of a more comfortable perceived mold for a QB they just aren't paying attention.

Not all people who criticize Cam are racist, but even in the media's effusive praise over his debut the last couple of days certain people in the media felt like they had to qualify everything.

"His coaches used him well"

"His receivers made plays for him"

"They simplified the playbook"

"They only used one side of the field"

"It was just the Cardinals"

Truth is that a lot of that may be accurate. But here is the rub for me. I watched Matt Ryan's debut and Sam Bradford's debut and both were kept on a short leash (well maybe not Bradford he had 55 passing attempts) and both had significantly less impressive debut's than Cam, but when I watched NFL Live I heard:

"Matt Ryan is going to be a Super Bowl caliber QB"

"Sam Bradford has all the tools to be a great QB"

What I didn't here:

"The coaches made sure Matt Ryan only threw the ball 13 times"

or

"Sam Bradford struggled with his accuracy throwing 3 interceptions against a weak Cardinals team"

These guys have average to mediocre debuts, yet they are the next great QB. Cam Newton throws for 422 yards, scores three touchdowns, has one turnover, yet the mood by some in the media is "....yeah but." (certainly not all, the media has been more positive than negative, I am speaking of a select few)

It is so glaring it is comical.

I'd take crap on FM than 610 any day. I've hated that station since Packman helped run the Hornets out.

This isn't what happened at all.

As a matter of fact, Packman was even running special promotions to get people to the Arena, most notably benefitting that kid who died of terminal illness. He was a big Pacers fan if I remember correctly.

George Shinn took the hornets away because he wanted the city to finance a new stadium and it went to a public referendum. The public, predictably and honorably, didn't want to use tax dollars to build him a machine to print money with no guarantee he'd consistently try to win. The NBA is a horribly run league so they let him move the team to New Orleans for an arena with far fewer seats but far more luxury boxes.

Of course the Charlotte city council then built a downtown arena anyway lol

I'd respond to this ... but I don't wanna derail the thread. I still miss the Hornets :(

Well that's sorta true, the city of Charlotte passed approval of a new arena but only under one condition...that Shinn sell the Hornets. The NBA couldn't really force Shinn to sell the team without drawing the ire of other owners so they allowed the team to be moved with a promise to Charlotte to give them another team.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
