Byron Bell will start at RT Sunday

Saw this posted about Bell, man I hope he gets the job, F^*&()K ottaleeda

Might be interesting to see how Bell performs. He's an undrafted rookie with a pretty inspiring story. I read the article they had on carolina growl and it was pretty good.

His younger adopted brother died when Bell's house back home burned down while Bell was at college. He has dedicated his football career to his little brother and says when he's protecting the QB on the field, he's protecting is little brother from the burning house.

Kind of reminds me of Michael Oher's story from the blindside.

I'm truly looking forward to see how Bell plays. His story is sad and I hope the best for him come Sunday. If bell comes out and helps get the running game started and protect Cam Good and help get a win. Then you might see bell in the starting role for the rest of the season. So in other words this could be Otah job to lose this Sunday depending on how Bell plays and if we win. Wishful thinking and all. But anything can happen. Good luck to Bell on Sunday. He will need it big time. :cheers2:

I'm a bit unsure about Clay Matthews, but which side does he line up in?

He lines up everywhere, but plays primarily on the left side of the defense...sadly it is the right side of our OL.

I actually have fairly high hopes for Bell. They played him at left tackle in college, so I think he will be more athletic than Otah. He is plenty powerful (at the collegiate level), so...we'll see. Go Bryon!

Here's a link to his highlights, that is fun to watch (quite long tho):

Byron's going to struggle (mightily at that) my expectations for this game have lowered somewhat.
You never know what might happen. Remember when Brad Hoover in his first game agaist GB on a Monday night. No one was expecting Hoover to come out and put up big numbers up agaist GB that night, but he did. This will also go for Bell. Bell is kind of like Hoover was. Hoover was UDFA and came and played well agaist GB and went on the be good player for the panthers for years after. This samething could happen to Bell aswell. We want know until Sunday. All we can do is hope the best for him.

His interview on panthers.com is fun to watch....his mama is going to be at the game and was only showing up to see his new place and to visit...she had no idea he would end up starting. I hope for the best and remember that he was called upon by the line coach to share his story with the entire squad before any cuts were made....I think they have seen something special in this kid. He might not shine on Sunday, but he sure is making the most of being an UDFA. Go Byron!

This is the only thing that brings up a level of concern. Now I think our O-line needed some serious improvement, but a healthy Otah would have probably been the last guy on the list to replace with a rookie.

Here's hoping Cam isn't going to be as hesitant when deciding to rush.

""A guy coming in your face, does that bother you?" - Maybe Eugene knew what he was asking Cam.;)

    • The division is most certainly wide open. The Bucs are a problem but Baker Mayfield is and will remain his own worst enemy it's a matter of when not if he has a bad game or even a stretch of bad games. As far as the Panthers they have done an admirable job of trying to address needs as best they can without pulling a Scott Fitterer and getting desperate which has only made us worse off in the past. On the Bryce subject all anyone can really say at this point is we just have to wait and see. This is the year and despite what the Panthers may say publicly doubling down and going all in on WR is as good as any sign anyone should need that they expect Bryce Young to have a very productive and convincing season. The pieces are in place. They aren't perfect but nothing ever will be. Regardless there's honestly no excuse for this staff and this team not to be able to compete in this iteration of the NFC South. Also just want to say this because I can say the hyper defensive posts already being made in here and it's probably going to be a season with highs and lows again but hopefully more highs for sure. But just because there is dialogue about a position group or a player that challenges your preconceived notions or makes you uncomfortable does not make it "hate" or "anti" this player or that player. For some people who talk a lot about nuance you would think this wouldn't need to be stated but that's where we're at.
    • If I was a coach I would preach "Don't let the refs decide the game" because as soon as you let the NFL the chance to help their bottom dollar whether it be teams that make most money or gambling then they will screw the team that doesn't fit their bottom line......is it rigged? No but do they try and make certain narratives happen abso-freakin-lutley. As I stated in a previous thread NFL players are the ones that SHOULD have all guaranteed contracts but the boot lickers on this forum disagree and argue for the billionaires in this world who own these teams, sheep
    • I wont go quite so far as to say games are rigged.  You wouldnt have to work hard to convince me there was the occasional thumb on the scale but outright rigged? nah.   but collusion on the rest of the "business" of football, sure.  No one really believes that the only time the 32 owners act as one is during the negotiations of the CBA do they?
