Question from the Arizona game?

Love all the pawns who are claiming the oline play sucked. That shows how little they even understand about football.

Simple math, 5 blockers, 6, some 7 guys coming. Somebody is gonna come free.

Don't tell the head coach they sucked though, as he even pointed out their play as being better than yall are insinuating.

Ummm, blocking rules on runs have adjustments. If I had software that could illustrate the point, I'd post it on here.

If you honestly think blitzing 6 guys matters on run plays, you're crazy. Our guys were flat out getting beat on the LOS, which resulted in guys getting in the backfield. Go back and watch the tape. Majority of the runs got stuffed, and majority of those were due to a man missing a block or not keeping a block. There is simply no excuse. At best, the OL wasn't getting any push, either way that is their fault.

I'm worried about our run game this season. I really feel that Jim Skipper is going to be missed. Fact is, our run game has been solid since he was hired in 2002. I just worry about John Settle. I am sure he'll do good, and obviously I'm judging him after one regular season game, but I just know that Williams and Stewart wanted Jim back.

I don't believe John has an experience coaching running backs on a pro level? Not to say he'll stink at it, because of it. BUT Skipper had a ton.

You can adjust but when a team is set on stopping the run and is sending jailbreak blitzes every down its hard. Its the reason our run game has not been the same since Jake went down. Jake kept the defense honest enough to run smash mouth football. Its kinda like saying well if you smash that square block hard enough it will fit threw that round hole.

Oh I understand that side of it. But to say "if you think the run game was the OL's fault is stupid" or anything like that is just ignorant. What, our 2 elite RBs all of the sudden went full retard and forgot how to run the football? No. The OL just didn't do a great job.

Yes, it is hard to block when you're having to decipher the blitz; however, that is no excuse for a professional football player. Getting paid millions. You better be able to pick it up relatively quick. They had their plays, and showed they are still capable of opening up holes. They just didn't do it consistently. Of course this is because they had 8 in the box. But they've done it before (both the regular season 2008 and the playoff game when Jake went blind) and we had success. No excuse to not have at least 1-2 runs per series where our backs have running room.

I will say, if I were to bitch about playcalling, it would be that we didn't run enough sweeps or outside-zones. I feel like those are the best to counteract the blitz, and with our RBs, they've proven they are great in space.
