Cam Gains Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews' Respect

actually, now I wonder how Auburn didn't win by 3TD's every game last yr

That would be due to our (AU's) defense last year giving up a lot of points until the final 2-3 games. Hell, in the Arkansas game our D gave up 43 points and we STILL won by more than 3 TDs thanks to Cam going absolutely beserk and scoring almost every single drive.

One thing that did happen is the team improved, especially the defense and raised their level of play as the season progressed. I think Cam had a big impact there too. He is a very competitive leader that leads by example. I see the same thing happening with Carolina this year. The team knows Cam will give them a chance to win every single week and will raise their level of play around him and the wins will come. I saw it last year w/ AU and I am certain the Panthers are on the exact same track.

And this is from his peers... Both possibly the best at their position. Everyone digging for negativity, keep stammering over your words - this is the truth.

Loving it.

But...But...Cam made mistakes that cost the game...Even thou that really isn't what cost the game...

I really wonder what those who are searching every week to find something to criticize Cam over because he wasn't they choosen QB would be saying if he was???

BTW, how does Cam rack up against other first draft QB in their second week of real NFL work?

I'm glad you were there for the first hand accounts between Cam and Clay. TBH, I was hoping someone would cut block the sh*t out of Clay during the game b/c I could tell he was talking non-stop sh*t to Cam.

I'm sure you picked up the exchange when Clay chased him out of bounds in the 4th for no gain... You could see Cam was smiling and thought it was gonna be a friendly exchange after the play and then Clay looked back at him, said something, and then Cam stopped smiling, turned away from him and went back to the huddle... Meanwhile, Clay kept talking.

I also didn't appreciate the celebration after Clay wrapped him up from behind on the scramble on 4th down where he pointed at him on the ground.

I was really hoping someone would f*ck Clay up, and I've actually liked him from afar until today.

Regardless, I expect guys to be competitive and talk smack, but he seemed like it was personal during the game... So, I was surprised to see him say anything good about him.

Clay is a talker...Even Aaron Rodgers get on his case about that...

It's quite surprising to see him so talkative because he really doesn't come across that way. But I caught a GBP game last season on NFLN where they mike some of the players and Clay was one of them...Let me say, he simply wouldn't shut up...Even while he was on the sidelines...Too funny.

Yeah, I think he's a lot like Smitty is for us...

I still love his game, I just didn't think he had to do that the whole game, but Smitty does it too so...

We're 0-2. I realize that. But seriously, the talent on this team through the roof.

Cam threw 3 really bad passes today, but that's what a rookie does, right?

That said, Cam is everything people hoped Mike Vick would be. We have the QB to take us to the next level. Remember 2003? It's gonna get a lot better than that.

High five, bitches.

What I am looking forward to is when we actually get the run game working? Cam clearly has shown that he can get it done when the other team expects him to pass. What happens when they have to worry about our backs gouging them for 5-6 per run. Stack 8 in the box and hope cam doesnt pick you apart? Or let the run game move the chains?

Also makes playaction much more viable playcall if the LB's have to worry bout the run, even easier ways to find TE's in that situation.

    • Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.
    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
