Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick

I have heard he's supposedly pretty good and should go pretty early In the draft. I know he's big and physical and has great speed. Does anybody have any vids or any knowledge about him. I hope the panthers can get a shut down caliber corner. And he seems to be the best prospect of the draft cornerback wise.

The majority of the people who seem to want Dre haven't even seen him play. I am a huge SEC guy and know the talent he has. But with all his physical tools and potential you'd think he'd be having outstanding performances. It's a luxury that he has the size but I am not sure I can say he is the top CB. So in that sense I believe he is a tad overrated.

I personally feel Janoris Jenkins is the best cover corner (I have seen Gilmore, Harris, Kirkpatrick, Boykin, Hosely, among others play). I posted this in the CB thread about Janoris, I believe:

In one-on-one coverage for most of the three games, he held the trio of South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffery, Georgia’s A.J. Green and Alabama’s Julio Jones to an average of 4.7 receptions for 38 yards with one combined touchdown between the three. In their other games, that trio averaged 102.5 yards on 6.3 receptions and combined for 24 touchdowns.

One of the concerns with him is his character.

Co-signed. I don't know why analysts love Gilmore either. He has great size but is terrible in man-to-man coverage. I think he would make an outstanding safety because he can be a ballhawk in zone coverage and can make some devastating tackles. Just can't play man-to-man consistently.

Same goes with Kirkpatrick. I watched Alshon abuse him last year in the USC-Bama game. I mean to be fair, Alshon can make anyone look bad. But he just embarrassed Dre.

Well I'm not a big college fan. So all I know about him is what I've researched. I know he will look like shaq compared to our corners. Seriously though he's big and he has talent. The only reason I mention Kirkpatrick is because on most boards so far he's the first corner off the boards then followed by Gilmore. But other than that I really dont know of anyone else that's really good. I just think it would go along ways with our defense over the next five years if we had a corner capable of shutting one side of the field down.

Well I guess what I'm really asking is... Kirkapatrick gonna be a shut down corner or is he just gonna be a serviceable. If he's has the upside like people say so then I say go for it but otherwise I say we give cam another weopon with Alshon or Blackmon or Beef up the o line

When I think of shutdown/cover corner I think of someone who can take away one side of the field or severely shut that side down. That's not what I think of when I think of Dre. Interceptions don't always equate to being a good CB, just ask Nnamdi and Reevis.

Like I said above Janoris did a great job against Alshon, Julio, and AJ.

Jenkins can't make a tackle to save his life...he's a poor man's Asante Samuel. Great cover corner, though.

As a 'Bama fan i can tell you that Kirkpatrick was all hype before the season. The Top 10 projections were crazy cause his play on the field couldn't warrant even a Top 25 pick. He was all measurables and HS ratings...

But man! He's finally putting it together this year. He's playing like physical shutdown corner...

Janoris is a great cover guy. That should be evident when he held that trio last year significantly under their averages.

To say he doesn't have the greatest of tackling skills might be a tad uninformed. He might gamble when it comes to angles and trying to make a jump on the play. That sometimes takes him out of the tackle. But I wouldn't say he can't tackle. Yes he's not overpowering like Dre but that's just because of his size. But when it comes to covering a WR man on man I'll take Janoris over Dre.

When it comes to cover skills I give the nod to Janoris, when it comes to physical attributes you have to give it to Dre.

I'll take Tyrann Mathieu in 2 more years

in before it's pointed out he's 5'9..he's still beasting it up this year

I don't understand why he changed his number to Patrick Peterson's number. He should have kept his old number and made name for himself. He is beasting it up and has a lot of confidence. He also does a great job of jarring the ball loose.

Sounds a lot like Taylor Mays. I was hearing top 10 pick about him 2 years before he was drafted, then the year before his flaws started showing and he fell to the second, and now they gave up on him and traded him (I forget where to, but it probably wasn't for a 2nd round pick...)

    • Another layer to that is Ive seen Seattle has been in the market for CB help this off-season.   Michael had a higher PFF grade than Horn who got 15 games this season. He wants to be here too, that's a huge bonus for any 5 win team that had awful pass rush.  The 7th rounder Michael Barrett didn't last long on Seattle, he was cut before the season I think and ended up on browns PS. He's already been on 5.......5 teams within one year.......
    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
