Internal struggles regarding Peppers?

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Gantt had three blog entries yesterday regarding the Peppers trade rumor.

(click here to read them all)

Nestled in the middle of the first of them was a paragraph I found quite interesting.

I do think his suggestion that the key to the trade is the 34th overall pick might be a little thin. The Panthers are a pretty stubborn bunch, and there's a segment of their front office that wants to bring him back, regardless the cost.

More climbing aboard the Pep to NE train

Could it be that part of the reason why there's nothing definitive on the Peppers front yet is internal debate about the best way to handle him?

If so, it would be interesting to know which "segment" insists on keeping him (Fox? Hurney? Mark Richardson?) and which is willing to ship him.

Also wondering if anyone else finds this notion a bit disturbing :sosp:

Yes I find it disturbing. I would be willing to bet with how he handled the Jenkings trade that the culprit wanting peppers to stay lays on the hands of Hurney and maybe Meeks. ( I think Meeks would like to see what he could do with Peppers.)

I believe that if NE say adds another second and a 3rd to that then they have a deal, unless Hurney is being Hurney. Which at this point he shouldn't be, we have some serious holes that we need to fill and we need the cap space and the picks bad. We need at least 2 OL backups, We need at 1 CB, we need 1 dt, 1 or 2 DE and maybe another PR/KR/wr on the roster. Plus we need to start looking for Delhomme's heir.

We have all seen Fox and Hurney in the past they are both very stubborn. Julius is going no where in my opinion unless were blown away with an offer. Not one second round pick. If we let go of Peppers were looking at the worst line in the NFL. Johnson-Kemo-Lewis-Brayton. Thats gross. Plus the bet we would get would be the Pats first round pick, and I believe thats at best. I do not see any DL in this draft that we can get late first round in the second round that will improve us for next year. And that is importan for Mr. Fox because this may be his last.

There's no one in this draft period that brings what peppers brings. Getting one really early 2nd rounder (basically a first) plus one more 2nd (gives us three 2nds) plus another 3rd rounder seals it. IMO.

I would rather us use the money he's taking up on some quality players such as Robertson at DT and then use our seconds on a DE and a CB then the last on maybe a QB or WR, then use one of those thirds on a dt and the other on a DE. fill in the OLine with some late picks and we are set next season and have some cap left over encase something happens during the season. Maybe even enough to add Holt on as a wr and instead of drafting a wr in the second just go QB.

NO LESS THAN 2ea 2nd Round Picks. He is far greater a value then just one 2nd round pick. We get no benefit by trading him for just one second round pick. The one pick they cough still leaves them with a 1st rounder, 3- Second round picks.

Now that the word is out, Hurney needs to Man up to Captain Cheat and demand no less the 2 second round picks including #34 as one of them. If he really wants to leave and go the the Patriots then his Agent needs to help our cause too. After all how was it Pepper's said. "I want is fair for everyone" or something to that effect. Well Mr. Agent make it fair.

Go Panthers

Otherwise, we keep him and hopefully Meeks will get him to stay permanently.

What do you guys suggest the Panthers do if Peppers doesn't report to mini camp? New D Coordinator installing new plays, or wanting to see what he has on hand?

I say Peppers gets traded and all of this "no deal" stuff is Hurney blowing smoke. They'll take the best offer that's on the table on the eve of the draft. Maybe even on draft day.

How many times do I have to say it?

We hold the leverage, and if we don't get an offer we like, Pep will remain a Panther... If he chooses to sit on his ass rather than play, then so be it.. I'm sure an arbitrator would find that he wasn't holding up to his end of the Franchise tag he signed...

Part of Pep wants to be here anyways, regardless of what Carl Carey would have you believe... If nobody comes calling with a satisfactory offer, Pep could be in a lot worse situation than he is now, and both he and his agent realize this...

That's kinda what I am thinking... Hurney isn't gonna give him up for just a 2nd rounder... why would he? He knows we have to get something worthwhile in return that will give us a shot at filling some needs on defense. Furthermore at this late stage in FA it is not like there is tremendous talent out there waiting to be signed that we "OMGZZORRZ GOTTA HAS IT!!"

We made our splash by signing Gamble, Gross and tagging Pep... it doesnt get much bigger than that...

Pep has said he wants to be somewhere else. How do you think that will go over in the locker room when he is the highest paid player on the team?

You noticed some reasonable posts wandering into the thread and just had to get it back on track, didn't you?...

If Hurney is blowing smoke then great... he is doing his job so he can get the most for him possible.

If Pep doesnt report to mandatory workouts/camps you fine him like any other player....

If Pep comes back he isnt gonna be a locker room problem imo... let's face it... they guy said all of maybe 10 things in his stay here... I dont think he is gonna suddenly become TO and make a scene... he might play like dog poo and pout but that would be very stupid on his part if he wants to get paid like he thinks he should be...

Peppers wants to be in a different "situation"... In case you weren't watching, we have overhauled the defensive coaching staff... I said from the beginning that Trgovac was the main issue...

When was the last time Pep or Carey even made a statement to the public?

They are waiting to see what happens just like we are, because the Panthers hold all the power... Sure, Carey can be out there talking to teams, but we have final say in any and all deals...
