You think Pep coming back and playing with any kind of heart for this team next year is reasonable?

If he "hearts" money then yes...

he will be 30 next year... it is make or break time in terms of getting a big contract for the latter half of his career...

I think the Panthers are in a good spot in how they have dealt with this issue... even if someone comes in after the draft and gives him an offer with a poison pill type clause we stand to get 2 1st round picks from them... It'd suck to lose him that late but then again it'd set us up long term...

When was the last time Pep or Carey even made a statement to the public?

They are waiting to see what happens just like we are, because the Panthers hold all the power... Sure, Carey can be out there talking to teams, but we have final say in any and all deals...

IMO, all this talk is Peps agent trying to stir some interest... because we know Hurney isnt talking to the PATS since Pep has not signed his tender yet...

As for Peppers possibly holding out in order to get what he wants, he said the day after the season ended that he doesn't think that's the best way to do business. Plus, he's 29 -- not a good age to be sitting out -- and has a $16.683 million offer sheet in front of him.

I agree with you. Everyone acts as if we have to unload him now at whateever price we can and that isn't the case. We could free up cap space by restructuring Smitty and extending Jake but haven't done it. I expect that they are waiting to see what happens with Peppers as the draft approaches. I figure that they understand that even after the draft there are players to be had. Sometimes teams are holding on to guys that they release once they get who they want in the draft. Other times it may be cuts during camp or preseason.

The idea that some folks have that we need Peppers may be exaggerated as well. We went 7-9 in 2007 largely without him but what hurt us the most that year was losing Delhomme. When Jake went down we were 2-1 and that was without Peppers for the most part. I think we will be fine with or without him. I figure Hurney will hold his cards close to the vest and see what happens. So far all this talk is from Carey and Peppers based on what they want to do. Problem is they don't hold the cards. If Peppers holds out then his career will take a serious downturn. No one will want a 31 year old malcontent who already has a history of disappearing and playing below his potential. I am sure the patriots will want him at a discount as they did with Moss but this is a completely different situation. Unless no other team steps up to the plate, NE is going to have to ante up alot more or it won't get done.

I'm guilty of that with my teams, so I can't fault Panthers fans for it. As an impartial observer, I'm telling you guys...unless Peppers has gone to Fox and Hurney behind his agent's back, and I seriously doubt that since this guy has taken care of Pep's finances and been like a father to him, Pep's not playing in Carolina next year. You don't go public with your desire to play elsewhere unless that is exactly what you want to do.

As for all of this talk about Trgovac...who decided to put Pep at left defensive end instead of right, where most pass rushers play? Fox. Who controls the defense to the point of sitting in on defensive meetings? Fox. Who does everything so conservatively that it drives fans, and players, crazy? Fox.

the leverage the panthers hold is hurting them overall however. Sure Peppers is on paper at their mercy somewhat.

but, because of the Cap and the huge amoung peppers is eating up the longer this drags out the longer we go without being able to sign anybody and plan for next season. Meanwhile, many players we may have signed otherwise are signing with other teams who have plenty of cap room

And the thing about him being a problem in the locker room is BS. Was Hanesworth a problem in the locker room last year for the Titans just because he wanted out and was franchised?

I'm thinking of a certain wide receiver who won't like it too much.
