Roy Williams may need to get a new tape measure. "Don't let Captain (Munnerlyn) fool you. He might be 5-foot-3, but he plays like he's 6-foot-5," Williams said of the Panthers CB. "So they have a great secondary, we're going to have to bring it to them this week." Munnerlyn is actually listed at 5-8.

Rivera also praised Captain on his defensive play and leadership during his latest presser, especially when Gamble went out vs The Jags with a concussion.

All in all good remarks for a guy a lot of you were calling no better then a Nickel Corner during the offseason.

People who thought Gamble and our cbs/secondary weren't good enough are idiots. They aren't the best, but easily good enough. That isn't where our defensive problems are. And they will look even better when our DTs get consistent penetration.

A better CB than anything we have would be a luxury, and we already spent on luxuries. We need a starting material DT, hopefully a rookie we already have, but if not in next year's draft we need a DT before CB imo.

I think our corners match up well against their small speedy receivers. We have physical corners who can get a good jam at the line of scrimmage. Thats how you them... CJ and Hardy will be putting their nuts on Cutler's chin before Hester and Knox get downfield. The pass rush will be key this week, as the Martz offense rarely runs the ball.

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
