Peppers conference call recap

I guess by "haven't ruled out any scenario" means open to leaving, but he did say he wasn't going to be asking for a trade. So he wasn't implying he was "going to do worse than Peppers". He certainly didn't say he was "heavily considering" not honoring his contract...

what ever techincality you want to rely on........fact still remains Smitty decided this offseason to stay and finish out his contract. He, Rivera, and everyone with ties to the front office have made it clear that Smitty was wrestling about where we wanted to play.

Now maybe b/c of Smitty's attutide plus what he has done for he would not have had to "ask" or "demand" a trade....but it was clear Smitty was making the call this offseason of if he was a Panther or not. If he opted not and Carolina traded him.....that is would definately of been worse than how Peppers left.

I disagree. If Smitty would have left I think it would have been respectfully. He's too close to JR to be outlandish.

Smith earned the right to make the decision. Everyone, the fans, the team, and JR know that Smith is HOF caliber talent who has been subjected to garbage offensive strategy and terrible QB play for years. Most Panther fans seemed to accepting to the idea if that's what it came down to.

How Smith repeatedly punches team mates in the face and is still considered respectful is funny.

I meant he would have left respectfully for JR. He would have kept his mouth shut.

Serious question as I honestly don't remember but what did Peppers say that was disrespectful to Richardson?

I was never a big Peppers fan other than him being a Panther but I just don't understand the hate over a FA going elsewhere or even wanting to leave.

disagree.....this is fan logic.

Peppers QUITELY played out his contract and when it was up voiced he was ready to move on.

Smitty would have been forcing his way off this team and out of his contract......you can't claim he has earned the right to force a trade....AND THEN for people to act like Peppers spit on us and turned his back on us. Now if you have no beef w/ Peppers.....then I can accept you thinking of Smith having every right to "respectfully leave".

Julius Peppers is a HOF caliber talent player as well...so that is irrelevant to mention. Peppers also wasn't the cancer Smith has displayed to be at variuos points of his career.

Bottom line. Fans need to get over Peppers and the whacky logic they use to try to turn him into a villan yet would respect Steve Smith if he left this past offseason.

The way he dragged it out was disrespectful. His contract with Chicago was a softer one than the Panthers offered. I don't care that he wanted to leave, but don't bullsh1t the fanbase, your teammates, and organization.

the way he draffed what out? Peppers never said or talked about anything.

He didn't want to play here. He played out his contract quielty (which few players with talent do anymore when they grow tired of a place).

Fans are bullshittied every day by players......Pep ain't unqiue for trying to tip toe around why he wanted out. Disrespecful would have been if he legitimately voiced why he was going to Chicago and didn't want anymore Panther paychecks.

Actually I don't. I'm a fan. I can take sides if I want. Part of being a fan.

I'm not going to argue or debate with someone why I think Pep can kiss my buttocks and why before the season started, I wouldn't of mind Smith getting a chance to revive his career with a good QB. It's my decision to make as a fan.

All I'm going to say about that.

I'll go back to :lurk5:

I don't think of Peppers as a villain but I don't think of him as a complete player and I don't respect him like I used to.

Smith wasn't forcing a trade, he was asking for one there is a difference. Smith had his troubles that is for sure but he laid it all on the line for his team every game and took the team on his back for years.

Peppers rode on his talent to get him by and would frequently disappear in games and get taken out by back ups. And couldn't handle stepping up as a leader all because of his apparent social ineptitude. A 30 yr old man who has been a big part of the team for so long get's pissy because he's asked to help lead the team. I guess we're suppose to treat him like he's 5.

Also, his bs about wanting to be on a 3-4 team but then ends up on the same defense in Chicago. The money issue was a load of crap. I personally would have more respect for him if he just said, it's not about the money I want a change(before the fact). He could say he hated the Panthers and I would have had more respect for him. But his bs about Hurney not trying to reach him and that the Panthers didn't value him like other teams would and that the Panthers were actually close on their offer like it would have made a difference.

You're right Peppers isn't special in what he did, I never said he was.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
