Cam's Response to Olsen

I'm not gonna lie... While twitter feeds/news can be interesting, it's like the TMZ of sports.

Back in the day, what options did sports reporters have to report something like this? they didn't, other than word of mouth, because they sure as hell weren't going to report it in the paper.

But with twitter, it's like an underground source... Their papers don't regulate what they tweet. So, they can report in their official capacity through the paper, and then tweet juicy-gossip-type stuff on twitter with no repercussions...

Many of the reporters do this with all intentions being "look at me! I'm the first to report this!!!"

Trust me, I love Cam as much as the next guy, but over half your posts are either race baiting, talking about race, or racially motivated.

It's insane, considering you've only been here a month & talk about race 3 out of 4 posts.

So I point out the obvious that Cam is intentionally being singled out by the media and used as bait to stir up folks emotions and u interprete that at me race baiting...So if I had said the same thing about The Golden Calf of Bristol or Mark Sanchez would I be race-baiting?

It obviously bother u cause there must be some truth to what I'm saying.

I already proved you were race baiting above, so just move on and stop doing it....we went about 6 straight months with that poo here everyday ALL of us regular posters are tired of it and the only people bringing up race are the ones who are just trying to race bait, like you were....

I can't hate on the media for reporting it. I'd probably be the same way if I were a reporter in Chicago and had no talent or writing ability whatsoever. That's why I said I wish Cam handled it better. I don't have a problem with that response IN GENERAL, but with Cam, he's held to a higher standard. Non-stories for other players are huge stories when you're talking about Cam, and I'm afraid this will be one of them.

It doesn't bother me one bit, I'm just pointing out the obvious racial slant to almost every single one of your posts when you try to deny it.

If you're gonna deny that you ever do it, then you flip & say 'so that brothers you?' after basically admitting to it two posts later, that's shows how spotty you are because you lied at first, then tried to spin what I said in your own false direction.

Your logic is a total straw man & full of more holes than Naanee's hands, so come off it.

i fully support cam on doing this. never give up and never be satisfied with a loss. newton is setting a win only mentality for this team. while it may anger some players, its going to motivate a lot of other players. we need to bring in more players with this mentality and weed out the ones without it... like naanee.

theres a reason why this wont happen between cam and smith, because they have the exact same mentality. guarantee you smith would have done the same thing in cams position.

You don’t disrespect your teammates. No excuse for that.

This is the only thing I think needs to be said about getting pissed off after a loss: Per the Shelby Star:

http://www.shelbystar.com/news/official-58910-panthers-shockey.html

Wide receiver Steve Smith misunderstood a reporter’s question about coach Ron Rivera’s declaration after the game that not everyone on the team is growing at the same pace of rookie quarterback Cam Newton — and that needs to change.

Smith immediately jumped to the defense of his quarterback and his coach.

“It’s not strange,” Smith said, his voice growing tense. “You have kind of been used to the mediocrity of other regimes, and we have a coach here who expects greatness and us to play well. So if you’re asking me if Cam needs to step his game up, you need to go back and read the statistics, but I think Cam is doing a great job. Maybe you don’t agree. Maybe you’re sitting behind your typewriter and your little recorder and you think he’s not. But he’s playing his tail off. Anyone want to ask me any more asinine questions?

“That’s our leader,” Smith said of Rivera. “That is the guy who is charging down the hill and he doesn’t have a water pistol. He has a gun just like the rest of us, and we’re following him. That’s what we’re going to do.”

With that, Smith ended the interview.

Let me be perfectly clear, I wish Cam had handled the situation better. But you don't say "good game" when you lost to a player who takes a loss personally. Go tell Ray Lewis, Peyton Manning, or Tom Brady good game after the Ravens, Colts, or Patriots lose, and see how they react. I'm sure it's not sunshine and rainbows.

Exactly. I've seen Brady applauded many times for chewing out a teammate even after a good play or during a win bc he's showing leadership or he's not satisfied with just being good. Olsen is a big boy he can handle it. I like this, Cam is showing that losing is not acceptable. Fug em all.

Cam was the #1 draft pick, and the face of this franchise, so he's gonna get a lot of scrutiny. that being said, other players get a ton, too (Romo? lol), and even comments like this from other players have made it on to ESPN (Manning had one at one point, and I think there have been others as well).

    • Call me crazy but if you’re in the bottom 7 in efficiency using Zone 84% of the time why not try something else? You paid Jaycee top 5 CB money use him more effectively. Zone is only efficient if you can generate a good pass rush to force a QB into mistakes otherwise you will get picked apart
    • Good Lord this board has become a cesspool of negativity and where fandom becomes something twisted and unrecognizable.
    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
