dumbest call I've ever seen

Regardless of if there were too many men on the field, a timeout causes the same result of the penalty - a chance for the Saints to kick a FG. They should have just waited and hoped the refs didn't notice. No brainer.

Yep...I'm not expecting to do anything spectacular this year but Rivera better get this under control because up until this point in the season we look like the most undisciplined team in the entire NFL...bad enough for it to cost us games. Whoever the ST coordinator is needs to be fired. We have had some terrible ST at Carolina but this is by far the worst I've ever seen. Its every single freaking game that they cost us points.

Undisciplined, sloppy, & terrible ST. Maybe worse than some Crossman years

But we're still in this one...let's rebound and get a win

Rivera looked pissed on the sideline so he may have been covering for an assistant coach or coordinator that called it... who knows?

Correct I overreacted but I still think he did it, maybe a spotter upstairs said we have 12 on field, spooked Rivera into calling it and later realized he shouldn't have

Even if there were 12 men...its a 5 yard penalty and all the Saints can do is still kick it with :00 left. No sense at all in that TO. If you take the chance at them running off the field in time (which we did) its halftime if not, regardless of a TO they still get a FG shot.

Stupid stupid stupid no matter the case

Not neccesairly, if Rivera knew the flag was imminent, then he should have called the timeout. That way the kick wouldn't be five yards closer.

5 yards v. the chance of no field goal attempt

Its a FG regardless within 46 for Kasay so why not take the chance?

rookie coaching mistake (whoever it was on the sideline)
