well, in two weeks we'll be at the halfway point for our 2011 year, so i think its time to ask: do you feel as if newton has improved from the arizona game to the atlanta game? or has he stayed the same iyo?

also, im just asking a question, dont take this as an anti newton thread (which some of you probably still will)

Not at all. He's stayed the same or gotten worse. Not sure if he's to blame, the pressure or the coaches, but he's still playing mostly on instinct. Lots of talent and potential completely inconsistent and unrefined.

He's erratic as hell though out there. He was more focused during his first game than he has been since. I'm looking in Rivera's and QB coach's direction.

Yeah definitely. He's been getting some solid pass protection and taking advantage of it(although he does hold onto the ball too long sometimes, typical rookie mistake).

Was awesome seeing him stand tall in the pocket today going through each read. Also seems to have figured out when it's time to bail out on passing and run.

well The Arizona game they didn't really have film on him. He marched down the field several times on ATL. And he has actually cleaned up on the bad throws. Yeah he had 3 ints today 1 was tipped, 1 was in garbage time, 1 was just a freak play from a DT. This team has asked Cam to put the game on his back every time, and he has answered the call. He just needs help now! the running game has finally surfaced. now if only the D can come around.

Newton was rushed way too much this game, pass protection was pretty awful. Do I see a change? Yes, he's going through his progressions a lot more, and waiting for the play to open up. But he can't do that if the offensive line doesn't give him time.

    • I saw Hooker live in Detroit. He. Stinks.
    • I am too. Frank became completely disinterested in the HC job after the draft.
    • down 24 and we get our first possession in the 3rd and what happens?  run TE checkdown TE checkdown run run run RB checkdown TE checkdown run TE checkdown incomplete TE checkdown run now on the 4 yard line- Renfrow TD and POOF!  3rd quarter is over.  That's not a team even trying to get back into the game in reality.  That's just the Panthers taking freebies to make it look respectable in the end and guess what? Bryce gets to pad on 6/7 to his stat line in exchange for making the 3rd quarter disappear.  Not sure the hyper focus on the depth of the corners.  Cardinals were going to simply drop and allow the easy stuff underneath.  Which they did.  Did they play a random short yardage play a little different? Sure.  That doesn't' mean they weren't just letting the Panthers overall eat clock to bring the game to an end.  The Cards strategy was fine on D.  You just don't generally see teams implement it as early as they did but they were up pretty big.  It's the other units for the Cards that fugged the plan up.  again, it's 3 drives,  the ONE in the 3rd quarter and only drive of the entire quarter and the 2 to open the 4th.  Cardinals gave Bryce stuff in exchange for clock  (and the result was slow long drives eating the clock).  The rest of the game? They didn't.  The rest of the game outside of those 3 drives the Cards weren't in garbage allowance mode and Bryce stunk
