If We Still Had Beason, Davis, and Edwards

everyone compares our injuries to the Packers and how they overcame them. However, they didn't lose their best player on defense (Clay Matthews) where we did. They didnt lose BJ Raji either. All their lost players were able to be replaced. Finley was the hardest to replace but Rodgers has enough weapons as is. Ryan Grant was replaced by James Starks who now has emerged as their main back

It hasn't just been that we lost Davis, Beason, and Edwards although those losses were huge especially in a Mcdermott defense where linebacker play is the key to success. It is the fact that we can't keep the same guys on the field for more than a week or two at a time.

Look at our linebackers and tell me if we even had the same starters 2 weeks in a row. What about the secondary?? This week will be a new lineup again with two guys with concussions.

You can lose one guy or two in a unit as long as the other guys and their replacements are in there consistently, but when you have a revolving door every week it kills any chemistry you might have begun.

So it isn't just injuries but weekly shuffling guys which is retarding the defense.

I wonder if any other teams have injury issues.

find me a team with an already-weak secondary and defensive line that lost two phenomenal players off their LB corps and the best DT on the roster and then show me their record.

backing up this point is the fact that if the defense had allowed one less touchdown in each game we'd be 4-1.

keeping on bawling though, like anyone over the age of eleven and with even a spark of intelligence agrees with you.

Even if we had those guys our D would still be suspect. We need more PLAYMAKERS on defense. Guys who go out there and take the football. Guys who aint afraid to tackle. We just dont have enough guys who create problems defensively for the other team. Beason, Davis, and Edwards are good players for us, but we need more help on D even with those guys.

Chris Harris?

Beason adds aggressiveness to the defense and was the leader. Davis adds speed, which our LB's are missing to stop the run. I don't know who Edwards is but apparently he was brought in to stop the run, which is our biggest problem on defense. We can't stop the run right now. I totally agree that losing these players especially Davis and Beason was altered our record. With them I think we are 4-2, maybe even 5-1. I however still think we can salvage this season with a win against Washington. All of our games have been close. The only play that made the Falcons look like they killed us, was a fluke interception by an ogre of a man. Despite that loss all of our losses have been by 7 points or fewer. If we were able to stop the run, then those losses could have easily been wins. I'm an optimist though and I haven't given up on this season. We look ten times better this year than last. We are actually exciting to watch, not embarrassing to watch, which I thoroughly enjoy. I think we may have more first downs this year in 6 games than we did all of last year. Can someone check that stat for me?

Injuries are no excuse. We need depth. I can't fault Rivera and company on this as he hasn't had time to get the players he wants/needs. Face it guys, it's going to be probably 2 more draft classes before Rivera gets what he wants. He knows defense, so I'm sure we'll be stout once the right guys are in there. If you want to blame anyone, blame Hurney for bad late-drafting, but right now, it's a matter of Rivera getting time to pick the guys he needs.

    • Yea when teams see a gun charge they rightly pause but this seems like a big misunderstanding.
    • Sorry man you lost me at "Teppers have evolved as owners". Limped into playoffs at 8-9 not even above .500 Tepper is trash as an owner bro and that's not even a discussion at this point. 37-83 w/l ratio. Nuff said.... Morgan tho, he's cooking and it ain't cuz of Teppers leadership
    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
