Props to Kalil

Everyone knows Ryan is one of the best centers in the game, but one thing I don't recall being mentioned is how well he has snapped the ball in the shotgun. Not only has his placement been excellent, he gets the ball to Cam with plenty of pace. The sooner Cam gets the ball, the sooner he can begin his reads. This is important when they are taking what seems like 75% of the snaps in the gun. (75% is just a total guess on my part.)

I don't remember who it was, but someone other than Kalil was playing center in the preseason and ball just floated back to Cam when they were in the shotgun. It seemed like the D-Line was able to take 2 steps before the ball even reached him.

We are lucky to have Ryan.

Im not really for taken a OL, but i wouldnt be mad at all about adding his brother to the line in the draft as well. Would be sick.

yea especially since his brother is a big time player. I doubt we will be picking that low but I would love it if we did. Move Jordan back over to the right side, best o line in football

  • 5 weeks later...

I notice they corrected the low snaps by letting the Hangman look back at Cam and tap Kalil when he's ready for the ball.

I was going to say was it against the Lions or maybe earlier, there was a game where it seemed every single shotgun snap was really low. I'm glad it got corrected.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
