So who do you want with our 3rd overall pick?

3 things that are most important: #2 receiver, O man and a vet QB.

Use your top draft pick to trade and get the first 2. You don't need a draft pick for a QB. The next Brady might be in the 7th round, or undrafted like Warner, on in NFL Europe like Jake or down at the bottom of the first round like Rodgers. Either stick with Cam if he turns into a game manager or find you a back-up with an upside.

But even if you stick with Cam you have to get a vet QB who knows how to run it. To teach at least. To challenge. And you have all those other picks to use on whatever you want. Whatever other positions might need filled: defense mainly and ST.

It's what we needed to do last year. It's what Bengals did and it freaking worked. It's working for Fox with The Golden Calf of Bristol cause that dude is inspirational and can get his guys to fight. He's got the God thing going. What's Cam got? "Look at me"? And you guys like this?

The QB position is not about athleticism. It never was and never will be. It's about leadership, character, consistency and accuracy with the ball out of the pocket. It has not changed in 100 years and no QB will ever change it.

You use The Golden Calf of Bristol as an example of what we need to do then say the QB position is about accuracy with the ball?

Also how do you say we need a vet QB then say it worked for the Bengals when Dalton is starting?

snag a RT with the 2nd pick? Bad, so bad. But Hurney might do it. When have you ever seen a RT go in the top 5?

And yes, he will play RT since Gross will still occupy the left side. As many things as we need, I feel this is the worst plan.

Kalil gives us flexibility when it comes to Gross; we can move him around if need be, it might extend his career, never know.

Gross isn't old....not sure it is wise to use a high draft pick to replace a Pro Bowl LT with years remaning.......

Lot of needs in Carolina. LT ain't one in the near future. Not sure you use that high of a pick for a RT.

The thing about the Panthers is we have one glaring hole. The unfortunate thing is there is no top talent for that in this draft. So your left with 3 options

Draft OL and fortify our Oline

Draft CB and have a log jam there

Draft LB and have a log jam there

And there is always a trad but is it worth giving up top 5 talent unless your gaining a first round next year? We really don't have that many holes and don't need multiple picks this year.

So Smitty has a good year and suddenly do we fall back into the old trap? One WR is good enough?

One WR wasn't good enough on a running team....now we are a passing team. So an aging Smith is a HUGE concern.

Justin Blackmon. Nuff said.

If Newton keeps progressing we need less WR talent. With that said we are not a one WR team. LaFell is progressing and Gettis has promise so WR is far from a first round problem. If it is even a problem you could draft one in the second round.

Did you forget about Gettis? Plus Smith, Lafell, Gettis, Shockey, and Olsen is a pretty good receiving corp especially since we have holes on the O-line, D-line, and a ? at the LB position. We need to go O-line in the 1st since those are usually guarantees and LB in the second.

Not true. Manning has had great recieving talent. Once they Patriots shifted from a defensive/running team.....they got Brady great talent. Sure, sometimes you luck into it....but Carolina isn't a position to hope for that after drafting Cam and shifting the focus of this team.

LaFell and the overhyped Gettis ain't enough. Smitty goes down the offense is nothing.

Carolina has always brushed WR off to later rounds.....they can't do that anymore. They need a young stud. Can't continue to hope to hit gold in later rounds. AJ Green is this good right now for a reason.....you can't hope to land those type guys in the 2nd and 3rd.

If the offense is going to carry this team then you invest in it.

No, but this board has hyped Gettis into something he isn't.

Gettis had a decent rookie year as a late draft pick...but only looked to run a select few routes well. He has missed his entire 2nd year.

Betting on that as the answer......and ignoring the WR position is how you end up with little talent at WR.

Shockey is old and VERY injury prone. You don't ink him is as an answer to anything going forward.

Drafting a LT when you have a Pro Bowl LT who is still young in the world of offensive lineman.....would be silly w/ the needs of this team. Sort of like extending DeAngelo......other options would improve the team more.

    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
