Why am I pissed?

Besides a 2-7 record (and for the haters, loosing close is still loosing), this..

Lions running back Kevin Smith...have been named the NFC players of the week.

Smith was named the offensive player of the week after a sensational outing in his first extensive game action in more than a year. Smith, who had played with the Lions the last three years but didn’t receive any offers in free agency this year, returned to the team this month and had a huge game against the Panthers: Smith had 140 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and added 61 yards and another touchdown receiving. It’s pretty amazing that this guy was available for anyone to pick up at any time, and no one did until midway through the season.

So this guy comes off the couch and blows us up, despite the fact that this defense has had more than half a season to get their collective azzes together.

And there are still posters who say "S**t happens. It's nobody's fault"..

That BS is getting thinner and thinner every Sunday.

I think most are just pissed because if we just had even an bad to avg defense we would have won at least 6 more games. Last year we were frustrated with our offense and now the defense has taken its turn at being the worst in the league. I mean I can understand the anger.

the defense screwed up. no one is saying they didn't (except for maybe pffl, but whatever...).

the defense is screwing up because they lost 3 starters. 2 of them are pro bowl caliber and you don't just go and throw someone in from your (or anyone's) bench and expect the same type performance. there's going to be a drop off. a significant one.

what can you do, though? crap happened that was unexpected. they did a lot to make the team better personnel-wise, esp. on offense and for the long term.

on defense they were counting on beason being the backbone of the defense (which he should have been) and having TD come back and play at a high level. they tried to hedge their bets by bringing in a couple LBs, one of them was a pretty respectable one (Gaither) and started off the season with LB being one of their deeper positions.

they may not have done everything that people wanted at DT, but to say they didn't address it is a fallacy. they brought in a solid vet who was known for his durability and they drafted 2 DTs with their 2nd and 3rd pick. they were planning on being able to use these guys in a rotation, but the DT that they brought in got hurt and put on IR...just like their two star LBs.

they've been struggling all year to compensate and it hasn't worked. odds were against them making it happen anyway with having a young team, new coaching staff, system, and a massive lack of offseason. those aren't excuses. those are realities.

they failed to make lemons into lemonade.

you want someone to blame...keep looking. maybe you'll find someone, but i guarantee you it won't make it any better for you. you're still going to be pissed. what do you want? heads to roll? that ain't going to happen, at least not right now and if they did roll it still wouldn't make things better right now. they'd still be losing right now and you'd still be pissed.

call them excuses or reasons or whatever you want, but there was crap that happened and the reality of the situation is that those things caused the defense as it is right now to suck. since the defense sucks so bad, we are losing games.

here's the thing. this isn't the end. this is the beginning of a rebuild that no one thought was going to be pretty considering the direction we were going and the shape we were in after the much needed demolition last year. next year will be better.

if you don't think that matters or you don't believe it, then your helpless and the best thing for you to do is just walk away because the alternative is just going to be you being perpetually pissed over something that is far beyond your control and over things that you won't get the satisfactory answer(s) you are hoping for.

I'm pissed because I go to every game and we lose pretty much every one. Pissed because 2 wins means no prime-time games for me next year. Probably all 1:00 Sunday. And no playoffs obviously.

Less pissed than last year though. At least there is some entertainment value.

just having cam will bring a prime time game or two.

the dude made the cover of the first NFL magazine ever. regardless of how poorly this team plays right now, as long as cam still looks good and people are hyping his potential he'll probably be good for a couple prime time games. they want to get that guy out front. his presence sells ad spots and gets people watching.

Given that Jackosnville got two home MNF games i am assuming the league has assured JR that we will get ours. Will it be home or away though.

I could see Dallas being prime-time.

or chargers...but i doubt many people really care about the chargers much less the former coaches going against their former team angle.

btw...thanks for finding that. i posted the we were going to be playing next year at home and away but i can't remember where and my search function sucks.
