So is there any doubt left as to what position our pick will be?

There's no point wasting draft picks and money on a secondary if your defensive line is pushed around by every team in the league. The Panthers would be better off building up a punishing defensive line.

Both of our third round rookies are starting at DT. I really can't tell if they are developing into studs or not. But I would be way more comfortable with the best DT available in the draft starting next year.

we have 2 very good DEs as well as respectable backups at DE, and 2 very young DTs. Unless there is a dominating DT I don't know about in this draft, I'd rather go with our DTs we started last year as our young DTs we're grooming, and see how Edwards looks recovering from his injury and see if there is a good NT in FA...

CB is a position where a rookie could come in with Claiborne or Kirkpatrick's skills and upgrade the defense immediately

Cornerback is a position where rookies RARELY come in and contribute and upgrade the defense immediately.

Under todays rule set, playing CB in the NFL is the *most* difficult job in the NFL. Especially when the DL and LB playing in front of you are total poo.

does it matter if they are good immediately or if they are good 2-3 years from now? we aren't going to be good any time soon. we may not even become competitive any time soon. we can worry about getting instant impact guys when we are just a few players away. right now we just need talent upgrades at almost every position.

Agreed.

Detroits secondary is total poo. There two starting CBs are nobodies (Chris Houston, Eric Wright).

Want to know where Detroit's pass defense is ranked? 7th in the league.

That ain't because of their CBs.

Once again...The DBs give up another long play. Then if you noticed who was covering Austin Collie on the 2 point conversion (Captain Munnerlyn). Also notice the position he was in (on his backside) when Painter made a piss-poor throw that should have been converted?

The DBs on this team are atrocious for the type of play that Rivera seems to want to play which is aggressive man to man. What has Morris Claiborne been doing all year long at LSU? Aggressive man to man coverage. He fits...pick him.

Adding talent to the DT spot isn't a bad thing. Yeah, we drafted two last year buy it wasnt like they were top ten picks and I'm sure the team can see if theyre making progress and taking their lumps, or if they're just bad and need to be replaced. If the right guy is available at DT, there's no reason to pass him up, especially since this defense isn't going to be fixed overnight--not sure why having an immediate impact player is so important if they have a chance at developing into a great starter in a year or two.

And we need a good free safety, as well.
