Guess who's given up the 2nd most QB pressures of any guard?

Wharton looks good in games from what I'm seeing. The right side is the weak side of the line, forcing us to slide protection to the right. Gross/Wharton/Kalil have looked great in my opinion. I guess having to keep protection of an extra TE on the right helping Bell has resulted in the majority of hurries coming from the left, too bad the majority of the sacks come from the right.

to be more accurate....instead of just pure pressures given up....wouldn't you need to also look at the number of passing attempts/times he is asked to do his job.

Wharton is asked to pass protect more.....which skews stuff. Raw pressure numbers are going to be more for him than a RG for say the Jags.

I was eyeing Barret Jones (no rainbow) and the RG out of Wisconsin who's name escapes me (Starts with Z? Is there even a Z in his name?). They impressed me' date=' especially Jones who has moved all over that offensive line in Bama.[/quote']

Because Travelle Wharton wouldn't dominate a college defensive lineman? Replacing Travelle Wharton with a middle of the line rookie isn't going to help our OL. We might just be SOL when it comes to the OL this year guys. Our offense is putting up top 5 points in the league. We aren't going offense early in this draft..hate to break it to you guys. Its going to be CB, LB, DT over and over again.

Sorry but I think I read somewhere on this thread that the Panthers were good at run blocking. I hate to keep quoting people but WTF? I think it's improving but I seriously think that when there is more than one defender in the backfield off the snap, the blocking sucks!

This is true. However even when you factor in passing block snaps (Wharton has 713) it still shows below average pass blocking.

Per PFF :He has given up 23 pressures, three hits and two snaps. Then factoring in snaps, they get a pass blocking efficancy of 95.1, which put him 52nd out of 58 guards.

every position on the line needs to be looked at during the offseason.

I thnk the entire offemsive line minus Kalil is due for an overhaul in the next

1-2 seasons. Otah is injury prone, the RG hasn't been solidified since 2007-8 and Gross/Wharton are starting to show their age. If the Panthers want Cam to have a long career, the need to begin taking a hard look at restocking the OL cupboard.
