Record watch: Cam Newton

Recommended Posts

Record: Peyton Manning, 3,739 yards

Cam Newton: 3,297 yards with 4 games to go

He needs to average a mere 110.5 per game for the next 4 games to tie

Here's hoping he averages at least 176, to break 4,000 for the year

He's also only needs 35 rushing yards to break the rookie QB rushing record

Didnt think he'd have a chance to break VYs rookie rushing yard record, but he could end the year with 700 yards.

Also it hasnt been mentioned, but Cam has an outside shot to break HOFer Eric Dickersons rookie rushing TD record of 18.

Not sure he will get that....but he will set the record for most TDs by a rookie.

I heard that he already broke the rookie record for total touchdowns (passing/rushing) can anybody confirm that?
peyton manning threw 26 TDs his rookie year.

newton has 26 rushing/passing combined.

not sure how that's going to be viewed.

Yep... That is the best I can find too...

Also of note, rookie record for completion percentage in a season is 66.4 by Ben Roethlisberger... Cam is currently at 60.8, so I think that one could be attainable too...

He needs 104 more completions to break Bradford's rookie completion record, but I don't see that happening...

If he could up his average a tad, he might be able to break the highest YPP for a rookie... Current is 7.98, record is 9.41

Meh, I think he's run too many plays already to up his completion % and YPP significantly. I think he might be able to get the Bradford record depending on how often we throw it in the last couple games.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
