Can Jeff Reed be our 2nd Jeremy Shockey?

After #Panthers HC Rivera left the door open on a new kicker, I caught up w/former Steelers K Jeff Reed, who is from and lives in CLT (cont)

(cont) J. Reed said playing for hometown team would be a dream come true, he's working out daily and in the best shape of his life #Panthers

As of this afternoon, kicker Jeff Reed had not received call from #Panthers

The Shockey signing raised a lot of eyebrows mainly because his history, his attitude, and his age. But hes been really productive for a number of years. So far so good.

Jeff Reed is a local guy, and one would think he'd be humble for 1 more run. He's 32, meaning he should have several good years left if he really is healthy and he's ready to go.

possible, but Tuesday it workout day, so its not to late...yet. Idk for sure but he could live in the area.

Usually they put out calls the day before the workout so out of town kickers can get their flights scheduled etc. Unless the Panthers only called a select few.

    • He has attempted 8 shootout goals in his NHL career and made 1. He is among our worst SO guys on the entire roster in terms of career stats.
    • Against Miami, the Panthers were behind by 17 in the 2nd quarter facing a 4th - 5. Young completed a 21 yard pass and they went on to score 7 on that drive. Then in the 4th, down by 4, they faced a 4th - 5 and again, he completed a 17 yard pass and they went onto score a TD for the win. He also accounted for 2 of the 3 TD's.  As I said, he got them in that mess and no doubt, Rico gets credit as well, but missing on either of those 4th down conversions hands the ball over and results in 1 or 2 less TD's giving them a loss. As you said though, that's just a small quibble. The real question is how does the FO see it?  I am guessing they see it as something to build on. I think most peope here see it as a total loss and fully expect the FO to see it that way as well. Time will tell.
    • Kochetkov is just too streaky. TBD if Freddie is doing that too. Freddie is the more reliable goalie over his career. The Bussi kid looks like he could be a solid #2 eventually.  Just need to figure out the #1 guy. Same as almost every year. It's not talent, it's consistency and being able to step up in the playoffs.
